PRESIDENT’S REPORT What a Christmas in July. Thank You Lynne and Garry for a great choice of venue and what a meal.
Thank You also goes to Jan for a fantastic morning tea.
Last week, a few members of the Committee attended a Probus Information Day held at the Mt. Gravatt
Bowls Club where we were divided into groups made up of members from various clubs from the south
side of Brisbane. Open discussion took place on subjects like club experience, social members, image and
administration. Presentations were given by Trade Travel, Travel Marvel and Yeronga Village.
It was interesting to see how we compared with the other clubs and it was refreshing to see that we are in
the main performing quite well.
Ian gave a good description of our new website and face book page to the group which are already
showing dividends. An interesting point was raised by another group regarding privacy issues.
If any member does not wish to appear in either the video or photographic formats, please advise Ian,
Garry or myself and we will do all possible to not include you in either our Facebook page or Webpage.
Thank You and have a great day.

GUEST SPEAKER Damien Owens and Clare Johnson from the Bayside Community Legal Centre (a free legal service) were
our speakers for the month of July. Clare is a solicitor and provided us with information as to what is
entailed when we make a will, power of attorney or health directive. A Will directs how our assets (estate)
are to be distributed upon death. The law requires that you must have the mental capacity to make the will
and be witnessed by two or more credible witnesses (neither of which can be a beneficiary of said will).
The role of your appointed Executor is to ensure that all assets are accounted for, all debts are paid, and
that the beneficiaries receive their inheritance in accordance with the terms of the Will. If you die without
a will (intestate) the intestacy laws of Queensland will determine how your estate will be distributed. A
Power of Attorney and an Enduring Power of Attorney (or Lasting Power of Attorney) is a document you
can sign appointing another person to act for you regarding your finances. The difference being that the
Enduring Power of Attorney still has effect even after you lose mental capacity. If you do not have an
Enduring Power of Attorney in place when you lose the mental capacity to manage your own affairs, then
the Public Trustee takes over your affairs until someone else is appointed by the Court An Advance
Healthcare Directive, is a legal document specifying what actions should be taken for your Health if you
are no longer able to make decisions for yourself because of illness or lack of mental capacity. Clare also
took questions from members on the day.
The Guest Speaker for August will be James Baylis from Arthritis
Australia.

TOUR DIRECTOR’S REPORT For our Day Trip in July, we ventured north to the Sunshine Coast
Hinterland for a Christmas in July Celebration. Morning tea was held
at the Mary Cairncross Park with spectacular views of the Glasshouse
Mountains .Jan Dinsdale made some delicious slices and cream puffs
which were quickly devoured. Thank You Jan for the home baking. It
was very much appreciated. Time was spent at the park on the
butterfly trail, exploring the newly built Mary Cairncross Scenic
Reserve Discovery Centre or socialising in the sun.
We arrived at our lunch venue, Flaxton Gardens where we firstly
enjoyed strolling around the gardens before being seated at the
decorated tables. A beautifully decorated Christmas Tree sat at the
entrance of the room.
The main meal of Roast Turkey or Roast Pork was served alternately.
The large portions were delicious.
Santa (Garry Wallis) made a visit complete with sacks of goodies for everyone. He was ably assisted by
his little Elf (Anne Pryce). Dessert was then served with a choice of Pavlova or Panna Cotta. Again, very
delicious. The meal was well presented and was one of the best meals we have had on our day trips.
On August 22, 2019 we will be travelling to Byron Bay by bus stopping at Fingal Heads for morning tea.
At Byron Bay we will board the solar powered train at North Station and travel to Beach Station and
back. Lunch will be held at the Sun Bistro. There is a selection of main meals and desserts to choose
from. Please advise us your selections when you book. Cost is $50.00 per person. Departure time is
