The Pretty Reckless Digipack cover for their album ‘Light Me Up’ presents the audience with a very controversial image of a little girl in a leather jacket, holding out a lighter.

The lighting and colors being presented in the cover reflect a loss of innocence at an early age. The lead singer, Taylor Momsen, was only seventeen years old when this album released. The lyrics that she sings within the album seriously present the audience with imagery of a loss of innocence.

The color scheme of the cover, white, black, and grey, add to the corruption imagery. Under the black leather jacket, the girl is wearing a very bright white top. The darkness of the leather jacket could be reflective of a loss of innocence over time. On one side of her, the pavement is almost clear white. On the other, there is a grey, rough surface to the ground, indicating the inevitable corruption.

The image of the girl holding up the lighter in a direct mode of address acknowledges the title of the cover directly, and creates a connection between the audience and the character presented in the cover.

The font of the album title/artist name is very conventional in the rock genre. In order to amplify the importance of the band name and album title they highlighted the outside of the words in white, giving them a glow to the words.

The color difference in the words slightly makes up for the difference in size. While the band name is larger and more spacious than the album title, the album title, ‘Light Me Up’ is presented in red font, amplifying its own importance to the audience.

The difference in color and size of the words printed on the front emphasize the importance of each. In this particular cover, the band name shows more significance than the title of the album itself. They are selling their brand.

The dark imagery from the cover could be establishing the darker lyrics within the music being presented in the album.
