1 Kings 18; 30-37 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes

descended from Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, “Your name shall

be Israel.” 32 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two

kilograms of seed. 33 He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the

wood. Then he said to them, “Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering

and on the wood.”

34 “Do it again,” he said, and they did it again. “Do it a third time,” he ordered, and they did it the third time.35 The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped

forward and prayed: “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be

known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these

things at your command. 37 Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that

you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

Theme; The Prayer of Elijah “Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of

the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than

words without a heart.”  Mahatma Gandhi quotes

Why Elijah asked the people to come? The people were already on the place

where Elijah was, but not enough, their hearts and lives are far before God

(Sinners, wicked). When we expect something from God

we must come nearer (Closer) as what prophet Elijah does to the People;

(Come Here) It is not enough that we are in the right

place (Church), transformation (turning away from sin) is a must.

What was the meaning of the phrase “repaired the altar for us today?

Altar- literally, refers to the place where we put our offerings and sacrifices

But the scripture refers, not only to repair the literal altar in Matthew 5:24 Jesus said,

New International Version leave your gift, there in front of the altar. First go and be Reconciled to your brother; then

come and offer your gift.

Refers to Reconciliation

Why Elijah took a stone? What was the meaning of

that stone? Joshua 4; 4-7 “So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites,

one from each tribe, 5 and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number

of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones

mean?’ 7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of

the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel

forever.”

the Grace of God happened in the past that brings us of what we have

today. The entire Israelites forgot of what the

blessing they have receive from God in the past

The stones represents to…

Why prophet Elijah stepped forward before he Pray?

It was a demonstration that, this was the need of the peoples.

Step forward -it means, take action" come forward, step up, come out act, move - perform an action, or work

out or perform. This is what the Lord wants to see in us today, our

“ACTION (PERFORMANCE)”. James 2; 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I

have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man,

that faith without works is dead?
