MAXCHAMP By David Calhoun, 2013 MaxForm Life Challenge Champion
In the last month I have seen so
much heart and positivity from those
around me and in the Max Muscle
community. I get so motivated when I
see people overcoming giant obstacles
in their lives and always pushing
to be better people than they were
yesterday.
It all started with my dad's (David
Calhoun Sr.) injury. He cut his hand
very bad. He had to have surgery and
is currently going through rehab for
recovery. This injury would darn near
stop anyone, but not my dad. He just
adapted to the situation and made the
best of it. So he changed his workouts
and not only did he adapt but he
overcame – the old man is working
out harder than ever and screaming
his saying, "PMA" (positive mental
attitude) every step of the way! I'm
blessed to have come from such a
strong man.
Shortly after dad hurt his hand, I
strained my back and my trainer said
I could not lift for a while. Blasphemy!
I became very frustrated only doing
cardio, stretching and rolling out every
day. So I called up my friend Cory
Jackson (Fayetteville, NC Max Muscle).
I knew with Cory being a powerlifter
he would understand my frustration
and could give me some solid advice
and motivation. Cory told me he had a
patellar tendon tear. The doctors told
him it would be one year before a full
recovery.
Taking weights from a beast like
Cory is like telling a fsh not to swim.
I asked Cory what he did to keep his
sanity and his response was, "I worked
on my weak areas and did the best
that I could with what my body would
allow." It was so motivating to know
that someone else was going through

something far worse than what I was
going through and still had a smile on
his face and motivation in his voice.
Talking to Cory got me so motivated
the rest of the week. I did my cardio
with a smile on my face and felt
silly for ever feeling frustrated. I'm
blessed to have such a strong-
willed friend.
Also this week I made a new
friend. Her name is Trisha Weltz
and she is in the MaxForm Life
Challenge contest this year. She
is kicking butt. She has lost 30
pounds since December and 50
pounds total since she began
her weight-loss journey.
With Trisha's son Hunter
cheering her on and being
her motivation, nothing can
stop this woman. She has
an amazing story to tell,
too. Trisha may be one the
most inspirational, positive
and upbeat people I have
ever had the pleasure of
talking to. Hearing someone
so positive and upbeat
made me think that maybe
I should add a little more
positivity to my life.
Talking to Trisha also
made me realize there is
always room to grow.
This group of people
has motivated me to
the point of no end
and made me hungry
for more on my everyday
journey to be better than I was
yesterday.
A big thank you to my Dad, Cory
Jackson and Trisha Weltz for all the
love, encouragement and motivation!
