An adjective describes how something 'is'. For this reason, we often use the verb 'to be' when using adjectives. Adjectives are used to describe nouns.

Examples: The house is big. We are happy. That book is

interesting. The Canal of Panamá

is huge.

The man was a student. (correct but simple)

The man was a nice, tall, slim, young, American student. (much better)

Notice there are Adjectives to describe physical appearance different than to

describe personality.

Example:Martha is a tall woman.

(you can actually SEE this). Do you know if she is friendly or shy?
