Book Week at Picnic Point – Find your Treasure
Picnic Point High School participated in Book Week between August 18th and 24th, with the
theme of “Find Your Treasure.” Monday and Tuesday began the week with two Pop-Up
Libraries, which students had to find using the clue “X marks the spot”. Dylan Lowrie and
Blake Iofrida won prizes for being the first to track them down and twenty nine lucky students
found a new book to read.
Harry Potter Trivia on Wednesday brought out the true Harry Potter fans, with only the
“Sirius” questions being asked. Victoria Sakis and Rahaat Shaik could only be split by the
correct spelling of the Peverell family! Martin Gligurovski and Brayden Cooke rounded out the
top four. Thursday’s Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt required only the bravest to put their name
into The Goblet of Fire at recess, before embarking on an epic quest at lunch to locate as
many Harry Potter Lego mini-figures as possible. Willie Sakis was the clear winner of this
quest.
Book Week concluded on Friday with staff embracing the theme of “Find Your treasure” and dressing up. Mrs Byron’s Madeline still has the students
talking! Our Support students helped to find Mr Wright’s Harry Potter Lego in the Library and enjoyed listening to a story, before lunch led all students
to the Library, where the magic of the written word awaited students in a technology free space.
It was a great reminder of the joy that can be had in the simple pleasure of reading, an activity we would encourage all of our families to continue to
foster. Thank you to everyone for a wonderful week.

TAS Faculty
I would like to congratulate both the Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber and Multimedia students on the completion of their Major HSC practical projects and Portfolios. These students have worked tirelessly to produce practical projects of a very high standard.
These projects represent a year of hard work and display the incredible talent we have within the TAS faculty.
As you can see there has been a lot of hard work and effort put into these projects and folios and all students are to be congratulated for the effort and dedication that they have displayed.
Student Leadership Camp 2018
On Wednesday morning , 15th August a select number of Student Leaders
from Years 7-11 started their journey to Stanwell Tops and our annual
Student Leadership Camp. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as we
set off for our adventure.
When we arrived we were greeted by our incredible Tops Leaders. Our first
activity was to undergo a bushwalk and discover what the theme of our
camp was. In our groups, we were given a compass and a grid with the
camp ground on it. Each group had to mark certain spots on their map.
After the first activity we discovered that the theme of our camp was ‘PPHS
18 Stand Up’. After lunch we then climbed and hiked 4km through the bush.
The positivity and helpful words expressed to one another was so
encouraging and the atmosphere was filled with a strong bond.
Day 2 consisted of team building activities. Each group did two practical
activities and they were Goliath, the Tree Line, Survivor or the Initiatives
course. Goliath is a 27metre giant swing and with the encouragement of
others, nearly all of us went to the top. 3… 2…1… the feeling of the free fall
was a feeling like no other. You had no control and only a rope to grasp
onto. With the confidence and courage, group C also got Miss Ngo to
harness up and jump on. We think she enjoyed the experience or possibly
made her fear of heights even more terrifying.
We all woke up on the last day upset that we had to leave …‘Where did the
time go?’ ‘Is it already home time?’. For the last time we split into our
groups and my group played a game and then we said something that we
respected about each person in our group. This showed that everyone has
different capabilities and different strengths and it tells us that we are all
unique in our own ways. We then all came together and had a delicious
barbeque for lunch and the Tops leaders sadly farewelled off our year 11
leaders for the last time.
From the delightful, mouth-watering finger licking meals and positive
socialising at the dinner table to the outdoor activities. From the teamwork
and competitiveness to the encouraging and memorable words. It is with
great sorrow that another yet eventful and unforgettable student leadership
camp comes to an end. And until next year we will all be learning and
evolving into better leaders with each different obstacle we face, utilising
our skills to the best of our abilities. Thank you to our fantastic teachers
and the Tops leaders for an unforgettable camp! Melinda Iveli, Year 10
