Behind the ScenesEnergy Players Tat Dont Score Any Points

account executiVe - Katie KnepperKnepper is currently in her second season with the Energy, but she doesnt eel like shesalready been with the team that long.

I had a really good time last year, starting out the rst season with a championship, saidKnepper. Its been almost two years [since I started working here], but it just goes by so

ast.Knepper is no stranger to sports. She played soccer all through high school and into collegeat the University o Northern Iowa until she tore her ACL during her sophomore season.

Upon graduation she pursued a career in sports media working with Fox Sports in Phoenix,Ariz., beore coming back to Iowa, and now works as an account executive or the Energy.

I like the sales aspect o it, you get to meet so many new people and get to buildrelationships, said Knepper.

When she isnt working or the Energy she enjoys spending her ree time with her boyriendand one-year-old English Bulldog, Rocco.It honestly doesnt eel like Im working when Im here, it just eels like Im going to a game on the weekend, said Knepper. It

doesnt eel like work at times.

Justin is a senior majoring in advertising at Iowa State University rom Williamsburg, Iowa. He

was involved with sports all throughout high school so it was only natural that he has chosen acareer path within the sports industry.

Nothing grabs my attention more than the competitive nature o sports, said Sanderseld.

Sanderseld began his internship with the Energy in late October, and is responsible or creating

yers and other promotional material or games. I you happened to go to the Energys websiteprior to them playing host to the Austin oros on Jan. 27., you would have seen a pop-uppromoting the Energys game against the Austin oros on Jan. 27, and military appreciation nigh

that was designed by Sandereld.

My internship with the Energy is exactly the kind o job I want to have someday. said Sanderseld.

When hes not at the Energy or working his part-time job Justin likes to stay busy hanging out with riends, or most recently he htaken up cooking.

Charlotte is rom Crete, Neb., and has been dancing since she was our years old.

Tis is her ourth season with the Energy and she has strived as the coach and choreographer othe High Voltage dance team or two seasons now.It makes me proud to say I am the coach o the High Voltage dance team, said Charlotte.

Tese girls work very hard each week at practice and their hard work pays of every time theyperorm.

She spends a lot o time studying the latest trends with various NBA dance teams do to makethe High Voltage perormances unique and up to date.

o me, its a waste o the crowds time i all o our dance moves look the same or are to thesame types o music, said Charlotte.Charlotte is very proud o how ar the team has come since she started and to have been a part o its progression.

Im constantly telling the girls I want them to be just as good, i not better than, any NBA [dance] team, said Charlotte. And in myopinion, I think we have achieved that.

When Charlotte is not working she enjoys to go running and biking and takes a trip each year to Colorado to ski.

What would you be doing if you werent playing

basketball?

Probably working with kids somewhere. Teres aprogram out here called Freedom For Youth, wherethey take in lower income youth and just change theirlives through dierent kinds o activities. Its probably

something I would do.

What pregame rituals do you have?

I always get a baldy (shave my head) beoreevery game, the night beore or the day o.I remember when we were heading to theshowcase (Reno, Nev.) and we were goingthrough security; I orgot I had the bottle, itspretty big, in my bag and they threw it away. I

was devastated.What was your welcome to pro basketball moment?

Probably my frst year out, I ran back on deense ora ast break and I jumped up to block a guy and hejust went right over my head and dunked on me. Iwas like wow, this is the real deal. Everybody herecan play, its not like college where you just have

those star players, everybody here can play.

Who is your role model?

My ather, he came here rom Arica as an immigrantto pursue his ministry. Just knowing where he camerom and how hard he had to work to get to where hesat right now, it motivates me, and I really look up tothat. I know where I want to be, which is the NBA,and I know how hard I have to work to accomplish

that dream.

What hobbies do you have?

Keeping my wie and my girls happy (Ehambe andhis wie, Sarah, have fve-month-old twin daughters),playing the drums, and helping with Freedom For

Youth. Just making a dierence in peoples lives, itsa hobby o mine; throwing camps and making kids

smile.

Whats on your ipod?

Christian rap, my avorite artist is Lecrae. Youstill have your hip-hop beat, but it throws a

positive message to you.

Whats your favorite part of playing for the Energy?

Te crowd, theres nowhere in the D-League where the crowd isthis live and amazing. Especially last year in the fnals run it was

just so packed, and the community, it was just together and they

were all or us.

What is your favorite restaurant to eat at in Des Moines?

I really enjoy the Drake Diner.
