* Visual research is a method that uses artistic mediums to produce and represent information. One of the most popular way of exploring into visual research is the “Mood Board”.
*
* Mood boards (sometimes called inspiration boards) are a compilation of inspirational elements used by designers to flesh out ideas at the beginning of a design project.
*
* A mood board is very useful for
establishing the aesthetic feel of a design. It
helps to explore the photography style,
colour paleIes, typography, paIerns and
the overall look and feel of the design.
*
* Brainstorming is defined as the mulling over of ideas by one or more individuals in an aIempt to devise or find a solution to a problem. It is done in groups or can be done individually also. * Brainstorming helps to generate a creative strategy which is an outline and the tone of the message to be communicated by the design solution.
*
* With reference to this task, you may want to do
this step before/after the mood board or may
want to skip it depending on the what you
accomplish from the mood board. The mood
board may spark off an idea or simply help to
determine on the elements, look and feel.
*
* The next step is to decide on the media strategy. It is a plan for bringing advertising messages to the aIention of consumers through the use of an appropriate media. There is a wide range of media technologies or mediums that are intended to reach a large audience. * Media is an extremely vital link that helps the designer/client to connect with the audience. One must choose the type of media that best suits their audience and message.
*
* Advertising in magazines or newspapers * Poster advertising * Advertising on television * Direct mail * Exhibitions or Trade shows * Merchandising and point of sale * Advertising through the Internet * Mobile Communications
*
* Now that we have nailed down the basics in the design brief, it is time to plan the action. You will do the following: * Create a mood board * Identify the elements of design such as the look and feel, style of graphics, colour paleIe, fonts. * Determine the concept * Decide the media
*
* Explain the plan clearly and logically. * Include photos of mood board and brainstorming in the document * Use the template provided on the class portal to guide you through this journey. Please make sure that you are not missing any important points. Use the template as a guideline not a rule. You may modify it to suit your purpose.
*
* Submit the assessment task in a PDF format.
* Due Date: Week 6
* Weight: 25%
* In the next lecture and assessment task, we will closer at the “real action” of the project.
