It will keep you up-to-date and informed, also if there are any changes to dates we will post them straight away and we also put reminders up regularly. Last week we remembered our current and past service men and women with our ANZAC ceremony on Thursday. It was hosted by our school primary and secondary leaders. We also had a laser cut soldier donated by the Macadam family, this soldier will sit under our Koorie flag pole and joins our first soldier whom resides under the Australian flag pole. Morgan Ruchel, Grace Kelly and Tiana Macadam had the honour of placing the soldier in the ground. It was again a very moving ceremony and is another way for us to build our Australian pride and say thank you to everyone that has made and connues to make our country the best place in the world to be. Congratulations to everyone that participated in the annual cross country and well done to Willah for being the victorious house. We have a few students moving onto the next level – Gus Rowe, Ebony Petty, Ella Hards and Reuben Kenny will compete next week in the Sunraysia South Division and Tom Fox and Kaitlin Hards at Ouyen on Wednesday in the Mallee Division, good luck to all of them.

Today our Primary and Kinder students had their first extra-curricular event at the Mildura Arts Centre. As we do every year we encourage our students to participate in different forms of education and learning and open their experiences up to things that they do not have access to all the time.

Tom Fox and Djanaya Ball are undertaking a leadership program hosted by the Country Education Partnership which will support their leadership skills and development which they will then be expected to bring back to school and strengthen these skills in our upper primary students. It is a great opportunity for Tom and Djanaya but also will develop others within our community.

Just a reminder that the Autumn Fair is on this Friday night it would be great to see as many people here as possible, it is always a fantastic evening.

Thank you to the parents that have made appointments to see your child’s teachers, anybody else that would like to please do not hesitate to call to make an appointment at any time of the Term you do not need to wait for a specific time as we will make ourselves available to discuss your child's progress.

On this note in two weeks time our grade 5, 7 & 9 students will sit the NAPLAN and over the past few days, you may have seen some media coverage about education state targets.

The State Government is two years into a 10-year reform plan in schools and these targets were always ambitious.

And while results in some of the important areas like literacy and numeracy are improving others will take a little longer to turn around. It is important to keep this in perspective and we are seeing encouraging signs that we can expect improvements against the other targets in future.

For example, last year, Victoria's primary students were Australia's top performers in six out of 10 NAPLAN areas - including both Years 3 and 5 in the most important areas, writing and numeracy.

We must remember that NAPLAN can measure improvement on a national level and the Education state targets can measure the improvement of all Victorian children, but neither accurately reflects the personal learning goals or achievements of your child. Which remain, as always, the most im-portant measure of success for us at Werrimull P-12 School.

Top Ten Study Tips from www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au (stay tuned for more in the next Pipeline)

Study isn't just for the night before an assignment's due or the night before an exam.

It's never too early – or too late – to develop good study habits. The sooner you get into a good study groove, the easier everything will be and the more your chances of getting good marks will improve.

Here are our top tips for getting the most out of study.

4. Discover your learning style

Most of us have a preferred way of learning. Get to know the learning style you're most comfortable with and study in

the ways you learn best.

Note that these styles are just a way to think about different studying techniques – they're not hard and fast rules that

say you should only study in one way. Try each of these out and see which ways you prefer.

Auditory learners prefer to learn by listening. Try reading your notes aloud and discussing them with other

people. You might like to record key points and play them back.

Visual learners prefer to learn by seeing. Try using colours in your notes and draw diagrams to help

represent key points. You could try to remember some ideas as images.

Tactile/kinesthetic learners prefer to learn by doing. Try using techniques like role-playing or building models

to revise key points.

Millewa Pre-School

What’s Happening

This Term at the Millewa Pre-School we are exploring health with our dramatic play area set up as a dentist and hospital. The children spent last week exploring all the new things that had been put out. They asked lots of questions about what everything did and how it all worked so we look forward to seeing how their play continues to develop over time. We have had different children being patients and doctors as they put into action their own experiences and knowledge of the medical system. We joined the students at Werrimull P-12 School on Thursday to take part in our combined ANZAC Day ceremony to acknowledge the service of the men and women in our armed forces over time. We also made poppies and ANZAC biscuits to share with the staff and students at school. This week we took advantage of the lovely weather and spent most of our time outside exploring all the different equipment in the shed and reconfiguring the moveable elements of our play ground. The children love the opportunity to take control of their own learning and make decisions about what they play with and when. Giving them choice also helps them to verbalise the ‘why’ of what they choose to play with, an important skill as they continue to learn and grow. We are using a range of methods this year to share what we get up to at the Pre-School so make sure you check the Pipeline, the School Facebook page and Storypark each week so that you can ask your child relevant questions about their time at kindergarten.
