The Pines Post — Farewell Edition - February 2019
Roger and Leisa Porter
Ziggy
It’s hard to believe but nearly 3 years to the day we arrived, Rog and I will be moving on
from Landsborough.
This has been our home for 3 years and we can assure you, the day we drive out will be a
difficult one for us. We feel we have grown with our community over this time and have
grown to love this place like it is our own. When we reflect on where the Park has come
from to the present, we are both so very proud of all the achievements and milestones
that have happened along the way at Landsborough.
Rog and I plan to have at least 6 weeks break just to regroup and take some time for rest
and recreation. Our family is very excited to have us coming home for a while, and many
chores await our arrival at our own home. Ziggy, our little dog who is now 4, will miss all
his friends also. He knows so many residents personally and loves nothing better than a
cuddle when they visit the office.
We can’t wait to come back and visit sometime and see what our new Managers will
bring to your Park. The foundations of natural beauty here at Landsborough are making
way for this community to continue to grow with grace and nostalgia. May you all
experience good health and happiness.
STAFFING
Sharon Nichols: In January unfortunately our beloved Sharon from the office had to resign suddenly due to family health
reasons. I can let you all know Sharon was so sad to have to leave the Pines. She called it her little haven, and she loved
her residents and tourists. Thankfully once Sharon is able, she will return to Landsborough on a casual basis in our
Housekeeping area. We thank Sharon for her care and support to our Community whilst she was here and wish her all the
best in the future.
Leisa Wone. Some of you may have met Leisa when she spent some time here in the Housekeeping last year. We are
thrilled to announce Leisa has taken Sharon’s role here in the office and already she is making a difference here at Lands-
borough. Her passion and love for Landsborough can only lead to continuing growth and happiness here at the Park.
Leisa lives locally and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Management positions in the past. She is also a great
personal trainer, so watch this space for some new and exciting exercise classes in the future.
(Funny story: Leisa and I share the same name Leisa Maree, we have similar tastes and, it’s uncanny, but we both wear
the exact same sunglasses. Can’t even tell the difference in our prescription).
Jade Wellington: We would like to also welcome Jade here to the Park. Jade is working in our Housekeeping area. Jade
comes to us with a wealth of experience in the housekeeping sector.
RESIDENTS
Peter and Sandi Horridge: We would like to welcome our latest new residents on site 112 to the Park. Peter and Sandi,
and Chilli (the poodle), moved into their new home in late January. Please introduce yourself if you see Peter and Sandi
around the Park.
Diane Ryan: Being a small community, we may not know everyone here at the Park, however when things go wrong it
seems to have an affect across the whole community. On Australia Day we sadly lost another of our beautiful residents in
Diane Ryan. Diane resided in Mango Lane and had been here at the Park for around 6 years. Although very quiet, Diane
had a myriad of life experiences and was wonderful enough to share her love of meditation with a small group here on a
Monday night. Throughout her illness, she still managed to take these classes and soldier on. We will miss you dearly
Diane. May you be at peace now.
Lorraine Schultz: Lorraine, from Site 206, has been in care for over 12 months and last week the remnants of Lorraine’s
van were removed off site. These vacant sites will slowly make way for new homes in the near future.

SOMETHING TO PONDER
Although we don’t like to think or talk about it, death is a natural progression in life. From our experiences here, we
would like you all to think about having a conversation with either someone in your family or close to you about your
wishes if the inevitable should happen. Passing away without a Will or anyone knowing your wishes results in a long
drawn out process with Government bodies. If you have not done so already, could you please give your next of kin
details to the office to be held on file in case of an emergency.
NATIVE BEES RELOCATED
As you may be aware one of Rog’s hobbies is working with native bees. During our stay here at Landsborough he
managed to save some native hives from major storms that had torn the trees apart. Some of these hives have been
broken up to create other hives. Roger is very happy to have relocated a couple of the tree stump hives to residents who
have vowed to take good care of them. (NB: It has been reported from a highly regarded resident, that one new
beekeeper protects her bees from the rain with a Bunnings umbrella! They are in safe hands.)
OFFICE HOURS
Please be mindful that resident’s office hours are between 12.30pm to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. Allswell Operation
Managerment is currently in discussions with prospective new Managers. Until this happens, please support Leisa Wone
and Wendy Heinrich in the Office and Nick in grounds. We will also have support with staff from the Brisbane office and
from relief staffing.
SPEEDING
In the last week unfortunately, we have had to speak to some guests who are speeding within the Park. We ask that you
please be mindful of our pedestrians, and remember the speed limit is 10 K/hr.
CARAVAN STORAGE
Caravan/Trailer storage has become a popular necessity within Over 50’s Parks. We are very happy to announce that we
now can offer this service.
Some of you may have noticed a site being prepared in behind the pool. This site was originally cleared to make way for
development. As this process evolves Allswell has decided to utilise this space until such time as the development
progresses into this area.
Any resident who has a parked van within the Pines is expected to move their van to this site. Please see the office about
this arrangement.
FAREWELL
Thank you all for the wonderful support and memories you have helped Rog and I create here at Landsborough Pines. We
will miss you. Kind Regards Leisa, Rog & Ziggy XX
From all of us here at Landsborough Pines, farewell Roger, Leisa and Ziggy, and we wish you all the best in your future life.

Nature Watch
The October/November edition of the Pines Post featured a story about Roger’s favourite passion - Native Bees. Following
the massive storm on 9th December 2017, many trees were uprooted and several fallen native bee homes were discovered
amongst the debris.
Roger took charge of the bees and has been looking after three hives ever since. He is taking one of the hives with him, but
he wanted the other two hives relocated within the Park. These hives have now found new homes and the residents
selected were delighted to take charge of the bees.
Neighbours of the new beekeepers will be happy to know that native bees are stingless and present no harm to anyone.
They are so small, around 4mm in length, that many people do not even realise what they are. “I just thought they were tiny
flying insects” one resident exclaimed.
Native Bees
Here is Roger moving one of the beehives with,
as usual, the beaming smile he has every time
he is in the tractor. He will miss that tractor!
Sue O’Hagan and Barry Kirk have taken charge
of one of the hives, which has now blended
perfectly into their garden and looks like it has
always been there.
Robyn Downey was also happy to
receive a hive and it also fits perfectly
into her garden.
Tiny, stingless, and harmless.
That’s Australia’s native bees.
