PRESIDENT”S MESSAGE

Hello fellow quilters,

This is my last address of the year.  It’s a hard one to write.  It’s the middle of November and the wildfires are still raging; devasting our friends and neighbors.  My heart is breaking for all of those affected.  But, it reminds me that we should never miss an opportunity to show our gratefulness for our friends and family.  I’m grateful to be a part of such a giving, talented group and I look forward to the Holiday party where we can all celebrate our friendships.  Remember, the party has been moved to Dec 11th at the Charter School.  I hope to see you all there.   Sophia

December Program ~ Holiday Party 

On December 11th the Pine Tree Quilt Guild's Holiday Party will be held at the Grass Valley Charter School at 6pm. Please note the date for the party is the second Tuesday of December & the starting time for the party is a half hour

earlier. The Happy Threads mini-group is hosting the party. The theme for this year's event is "The 12 Days of Quilting".

At the November Guild Meeting Joan Mosley passed around a sign-up sheet for you to bring your favorite holiday dishes.

If you didn’t get a chance to sign up for anything in particular, you can just bring whatever you'd like to bring, that works too, pot-luck.

There will be a food drive for the Interfaith Food Ministry. Sharon Ellisor volunteers her time at this food bank. Last year they gave out over 100,000 bags of groceries!

So please bring a bag of non-perishable food or a bag of non perishable food and you will receive raffle tickets to qualify you for a fabulous prize.

One item ~ One ticket ONE BAG of FOOD ~ FIVE TICKETS!!!

Just for fun we plan on playing Quilto. It's very much like Bingo, but with a quilting theme.

In order to play you need to purchase a Quilto card. Each card costs one fat quarter. So if you want to play 4 Quilto cards at once you can give 4 fat quarters or one yard of Quality Fabric. We don't mean to be fussy, but please don't bring that faded old calico that your grandma left you. The first person who

shouts "QUILTO" wins all the fat quarters collected for that game. We will play this game three times. So bring as many FQ's as you want.

We would also like to encourage everyone to bring your own coffee mug. There will be hot cider & cocoa, as well as water.

See you there. 6pm on the 2nd Tuesday, December 11th.

There is no scheduled meeting for community Service in December, but that doesn’t mean we won’t have an impromptu get together. Watch your email for a blast if one does take place!

Join us in January when we will again cut, assemble kits and do other tasks that help complete quilts for distribution to those in need. We meet from 9 to 3 on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Our location is the Historical Society building across from the Office of Education, the CAL Fire station at the intersection of Gold Flat, Ridge Road and Zion…..

If you can’t make it to the Thursday gathering, contact Nancy Holtz for other arrangements.

With around 200 members, we are fortunate to have many involved in our various activities. Our Guild and Quilt Show would never function without the many hands that make our tasks lighter.

That said, we still have a few spots that need to be filled

The Guild needs people to organize: Mini Groups: Shall assist members in joining a mini group. Publicity: Shall provide information to the community to keep them informed of Guild Activities. Speaker Workshop:  Shall work closely with the Program Chairperson and be responsible for administrative aspects of the speaker workshops.

The Quilt Show needs people to organize: Publicity: Getting the word out about the show Props: Setting the atmosphere with themed displays. Co-Chairs for multiple committees

The Quilt Show Committee has met twice and plans are moving along. We’ve had generous members step forward to be the chair and co-chairs of the committees, but we still need help in publicity.

Remember, you don’t have to do anything alone…..there are five team chairwomen and if we can get two people at each committee, no one person has to do it all!

Please consider a”Yes, I’d love to help!” or contact one of us at the December meeting to offer your help.

Hall of Honor

It's your last chance to nominate a worthy guild member to the "Hall of Honor". The nominees must have been an active member, in good standing, for a minimum of eight consecutive years, or shall have supported the Guild's activities and goals by having served as an officer or on committees, and/or contributed to the guild or quilt world in a significant way.

Ballots for nomination will be passed out for the last time at the December meeting. The award winner will be announced in January & will be honored at the Quilt Show in May.

Thank You! Bonnie and Theresa extend their heartfelt thanks to all the fine HSW teachers of 2018. Each one has brought something new or something revisited and fun to HWS.

GUILD CHALLENGE

I will have the alphabet bag at the December meeting/party. Please come and pick out your letter, if you don’t already have one. Picking a letter does not commit you to entering the Challenge. It gives me an idea of how many of you were interested in considering entering. The rules are simple. Outside border may not exceed 144”; There must be a minimum of three (3) items on the front of the quilt that start with your letter; Please keep it a secret.

Quilts will be hung and voted on at our March Guild meeting. Ribbons will be awarded in the following categories: Best Use of Theme, Best Traditional, Best Appliqué, Best Art, Most Humorous, and favorite quilt. You never know, I might throw in a surprise category during voting.
