The Pendulum Elon University’s Student Newspaper The Pendulum is looking for well qualified applicants with a thirst for news, strong writing abilities, photographic skill, energy for page design and/or a willingness to work online with video, audio and other multimedia tools. Some positions require five office hours a week and come with a weekly stipend. "The staff is very welcoming," said copy editor Rebecca Iannucci. "In my time here as a freshman, The Pendulum has made me a better team player." Opportunities to do more than simply write are available. The Pendulum continues to make great strides into the online world, and it welcomes students who are willing to shoot video and photos, create podcasts, interactive graphics and produce Soundslides photo essays. "As a multimedia editor I've gotten early access the alumni field house and I talk with all types of people," said Zachary Horner. "I've been able to do more with things I was already interested in." The Pendulum, which has been honored with a national Pacemaker award, is a highly creative environment, seeking intelligent, committed and driven students. If you fit that description, then apply immediately regardless of major or year. "We create a product that represents the whole of the student body so we are always looking for a staff of passionate students from all disciplines," said managing editor Rebecca Smith. Applications are available online at elon.edu/pendulum and are due on April 27 at 5pm. Making a newspaper can only happen if there’s a dynamic team with a diverse skill set. While reporters focus on getting the story, the copy editors make sure every i is dotted and t is crossed. Our section editors choose the content for each week’s paper and assign stories to reporters. The design team makes sure every page is pretty, down to the pica. Our photographers, multimedia editors, and online team focus use state-of-the-art equipment to create a unique visual experience for the 20,000 people who visit The Pendulum online every month.
