After the 4-hour meeting at Ron's, we (Chicago group) met for another 4 hrs, talked, laughed and finally agreed to change our chapter to that of Metropolitan Chicago Chapter, leaving room for another chapter in Minnesota who will be handling next year's event. We can then keep the San Diego chapter, and create one in Los Angeles and San Francisco, New York, New Jersey, Canada, etc. We do not have to have a lot of members initially. We only need dedication and strong commitment for these chap- ters to bloom. We can also recruit associate members. Ipatindog ang bandera! Then encourage everyone to attend the annual convention to get energized. Gemma Deloria Herrrera (Edgar's daughter) in San Diego, is willing to join. Ron, call her and get to know her at 619- 265-6399. She can sing (solo quality). So, music might be our initial binding force. Gani, Vito's son, has been attend- ing our reunions. Hopefully he will be in MN when we meet. Maybe we can gather our children and have a youth chapter. Our organization needs to be financially secure so that we will not be limited. I would like to suggest a goal of at least $15,000.00 next year. We have ample time to prepare. The Chicago group agreed to pledge at least $5,000.00. Pending approval of the rest of our group, Virgie Las Pinas will lead Chicago. I need ALL your help to carry on the task of chairperson, and ideas and creative ways of promoting our mission and vision to the rest of the world. I really have a lot of commit- ments, but I also have a deep commitment for SPUD In fact, I have not unpacked since San Diego, other than getting the laundry out. For all that everyone is doing, thank you so much! Danny, I will also have to ask my son how to download or order from your gallery of pictures: really great photos. Suzette will an- nounce our venue for next year as soon as possible. Then we can also print our raffle tickets early for distribution. I expect the team leaders of the different projects to report periodically. Looking forward to another fruitful year. God bless. Love you all. I would like to echo everyone's sen- timents of gratitude, joy, the sense of pride and accomplishments, enthusi- asm for next year's convention, the warm feelings of camaraderie and the shared vision of making our organiza- tion grow and to push through with our commitments to SPUD projects.

Thanks For The Memory …[w/ apologies tooriginal lyrics made popular by Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra]

Thanks for the memory, of things we can’t forgetSan Diego’s wondrous trio - Ron, Joe, and JojoHosting our meet without a hitch,How lovely it was!

Thanks for the happy hours, we spent with youngand old Paulinians, we’re told, with visions ofA growing NA "SPUD" alumni ...How fruitful it was!

Breakfasts at La Quinta was loadedWith Paulinian tales of mischiefT’was so swell that we lastedWith all the fun, still lots were done.

Thanks for sunny days, bus tour and sights,The poses full of smiles,And many sites reminding usof Spanish might and looksObviating guide books!

And thanks for the “hawaiian nite”the muumuus and the leis, our faces all aglow,Sweet music of the comboand the jokes of Brad and Dan,We gave them loud cheers!

Theme song and hymn we sang with passion,Danced the nite away with good rock and roll,Lost track of hours, 'til we’re warned,This dance was last!

Well thanks for the early mass, our spirits lifted up by Pinoy choir,With celebrant’s cogent sermon, heaven here we come,We felt so enshrined!

And thanks for the calories, the sumptuous Sunday brunchAt Ron Somera’s “ranch”Then Vito heaved a sighwhen saying Gloria has the helm,So thanks all so-o-o much!!!

Outgoing Chair’s Message:Thanks & Appreciation

Vito G. InoferioPast President & Chair

Board of DirectorsOctober 2006– August 2008

To Ron and Millie, Jojo and Vivienne, and Joe and Warlee —daghan kaayong salamat! I am still amazed atyour dedication and energy in hosting the national gather-ing. Many of us know it was not easy but you took the chal-lenge and pulled it together. Someday, when the history ofSPUDAA-NA will be written, definitely there will be a chapteron the incredible efforts shown by the San Diego crew. I amtruly humbled by your generosity and hospitality. To the folks from LA and to those who traveled from nearSan Diego and afar, thank you for the generosity of yourcompany. The anecdotes and the jokes bring back memo-ries of life in Dumaguete. On the car trip back to LA, I de-scribed to my 16-year old son, Gani, the weekend events assimilar to what we experienced during fiestas in the Philip-pines. Once a year, we visit with friends and relatives toenjoy the company and food (and a few drinks!).To the new officers of the organization, keep the passion forthe alma mater. Remember to reach out to the membership- to communicate and to ask for help.To all the members, any organization survives on thestrength of the commitment of its membership. I ask thatyou stay involved. Ask what you can do for SPUDAA-NA. Inmy new role as a citizen of SPUDAA-NA, I will find ways tohelp the leadership get the younger generation of alumniinto the SPUDAA-NA fold. We need to get these young’uns! On a personal note, the trip back was restful and filled withexcitement especially for Gani. We got to spend time withrelatives. Monday was dedicated to a campus tourat San Diego State, then a side trip to San Juan de Capis-trano, a campus visit at the University of Southern California, and topped by attending the football practice of the USCTrojans later in the afternoon. Tuesday was another campusvisit this time at UCLA, then driving in the nearby BeverlyHills area and to Santa Monica pier, and a car ride back tothe Coliseum to watch (again!) the USC Trojans scrim-mage. Early in the evening, we drove to the Dodger Sta-dium and enjoyed as LA beat the Philly in the bottom of the9th inning - score was tied 3-3 and LA's Ethier hit a longsacrifice fly off JC Romero (a former Minnesota Twinspitcher) with a runner in 3rd base. Needless to say, the sta-dium erupted as the ball flew towards the left side of the fieldand the runner from 3rd jogged to home plate. From thestadium, we went straight to LAX to catch a 2 am flight backto Minneapolis. What a night and what a weekend! ◘
