Why OHIO?ESTABLISHED IN 1804, OHIO UNIVERSITY IS THE oldest public institution of higher learning in the historic Northwest Territory and the state of Ohio. As a compre-hensive, national research university, we offer students a distinctive, high-quality education.

Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Athens’ natural beauty provides a picturesque backdrop for a college town that boasts a vibrant community of more than 21,000 students.

At the heart of OHIO’s scenic campus is a welcoming academic community. We believe that there is no better way to learn about the world than to create an envi-ronment where students of diverse backgrounds and perspectives study, live, learn and socialize together. Such preparation enables OHIO students to graduate well-educated and prepared to take on the complex challenges of today’s interconnected, global workplace.

Student Spotlight“Ohio University does not mass-produce teachers for the ‘average’ suburban classroom like some colleges. They prepare future educators to teach in diverse classroom settings. As a student in The Patton College, I have learned about classroom management, differentiating instruction, les-son planning, cultural diversity, legal policies and other important educational issues. When I graduate, I will be equipped to run an effective classroom that supports the academic and social success of students.”
