Divorce Care Support
Gettysburg Presbyterian Church is pleased to begin
offering DivorceCare support services through its
Stephen Ministry. Divorce and separation are painful
and stressful, and people going through them can feel
very isolated.
DivorceCare is a nationally recognized support group
that meets weekly to help people experiencing
separation and/or divorce face the many challenges
facing them. DivorceCare is a faith-based program,
which runs in 13 week cycles. Each meeting
incorporates a video seminar with top experts on
divorce and recovery, followed by time spent as a
group discussing the video and talking about the
challenges that the members of the group may be facing.
The first cohort at GPC for DivorceCare begins on Sunday,
August 27 from 5:30 to 7 in the Eisenhower Lounge, and will
meet every Sunday for 13 weeks at the same time. The groups
will be facilitated by Dr. Susan Tassin, and require pre-registration.
The cost is $15, and includes a workbook (confidential financial
aid available upon request). Childcare is available upon request,
let us know when registering for the group.
If interested, please contact Susan at [email protected] or
call the church office. Further information, including free daily
e-mail sign-up can be located at www.divorcecare.org.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS, PRINCIPALS, SUPERINTENDENTS
Sunday, August 20th we are inviting you to come to worship for a blessing by the Director of Christian Education. We want to bless you as you enter a new school year. We know the pressure that our cul-ture puts on educators to rectify all kinds of family and social problems that have made this profession both vastly more crucial and infinitely more difficult. Please join us on Sunday, August 20th as we affirm educators serving in schools as a called to and honorable vocation.
BLESSING OF BACKPACKS
Sunday, August 27th we would like all children and youth to bring their backpacks to worship. We will have the blessing of the backpacks during the Children’s Message and have a token to give each child to go on their backpack. Our children and youth deal with so many stresses nowadays – academic, extra-curricular, social, etc. During all these stresses, we want them to have a tangible reminder that they are always being upheld by the love of God and the love and prayers of this congregation. What better tangible reminder than the backpack that they lug around with them all day long? So, if you know any children or youth, encourage them to bring their backpacks to worship on Sunday, August 27th.

Confidentiality
It's a cornerstone of Stephen Ministry, and a good guide for all of us to live by.
When someone tells you something private, resist the temptation to pass it
along. Keep it confidential. In the event you really believe someone else needs
to know, encourage the person who told you to tell that person, or get his or her
permission to pass it along. You'll feel better in the long run--and you'll have
earned the trust of a friend. For more information contact Lou Nyiri at 334-1235 ext. 4.

Praise Fest at Rec Park Amphitheater
On Saturday, July 29, fourteen area churches are sponsoring a Praise
Fest from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Gettysburg Rec Park Amphithea-
ter (off of Howard Avenue).
This event will include five different Christian bands, a choir, chil-
dren’s activities, two messages (one in English and one in Spanish),
free hamburgers, hot dogs and more. There will also be opportunities
for sharing prayer requests and lots of fellowship and fun!
This is the fourth year this event has been held as a way for churches,
congregations and the community to work together in bringing a
greater presence of the Gospel’s Good News beyond the walls of our
churches. Such ministries as Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S., Ruth’s Harvest,
“Ashes To Go” on Ash Wednesday, have been an outgrowth of this
“God On the Ground” initiative. Bring a chair or a blanket and join us
for some or part of this community event!
In the event of rain, the Praise Fest will be canceled.
