Le Participe Présent

The participe présent is used to signify when

we are doing multiple actions at once. It is used to translate ‘while’

While going – en allant While walking – en marchant While eating – en mangeant While talking – en parlant While finishing – en finissant

When Do We Use It?

To form the participe présent,

1. take the radical (first part) of the form nous in the present tense

2. Add on –ant

Nous parlons > parl--- > parlant Nous marchons > march--- > marchant Nous mangeons > Mange--- > mangeant

**** the ending –ant never changes

How Do We Use It?

The participe présent follows the word ”en” to

indicate that the action is taking place at the same time as another action

En arrivant à la maison, ils ont vu la porte ouverte.

Je fais toujours mes devoirs en regardant la télé.

En faisant ce voyage, je réalise le rêve de ma vie!
