Dearest Parishioners,
Peace in the Father and the Son who sends us Their Holy Spirit. This Sunday the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Pentecost, that day in which the Holy Spirit fully manifested Himself to the disciples of Jesus and formed them as Church. The early Christian bishop, Saint Cyril of Alexandria, Egypt, wrote: “Taken separately, we are many, and Christ sends the Spirit, who is both the Father’s Spirit and his own, to dwell in each of us. Yet that Spirit, being one and indivisible, gathers those who are distinct from each other as individuals, and causes them all to be seen as a unity in himself.” As such, this day is traditionally known as the birthday of the Church. Happy Birthday! The Holy Spirit is the soul and the heartbeat of the Church. As both “Holy” and “Spirit,” the Holy Spirit is “the breath of God” (ruah in Hebrew) and is the life-breath of the Church who sanctified us in Baptism and helps us grow in holiness becoming like God who is “Holy, Holy, Holy.” In the Holy Spirit, we are “saints-in-the-making.” NOBODY IS EXCLUDED FROM THE CALL TO HOLINESS, from the call to live life in the Spirit. Because of sin, none of us is worthy of such a great calling. However, WE ARE LOVED by the Father: this love and mercy took flesh in Jesus who saved us by His precious blood and this love is poured out into our hearts in the Holy Spirit. Writes Saint Paul, “…and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5). During this time of the pandemic, I encourage you to read the Acts of the Apostles, the so-called “Gospel of the Holy Spirit.” In Acts, we have a vision of the Church that comes to birth in the Holy Spirit, goes forth to preach the Gospel, and is strengthened by prayer and the Holy Spirit to overcome divisiveness and persecution and to grow in a deeper knowledge of our Christian faith.
Fr. Matthew
Sharing of time, talent or treasure for the common good & the glory of God
“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for
the common good.” - 1 CORINTHIANS 12:7
For Stewards to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, we must open our hearts and invite Him in! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words and actions every day! Be grateful for all the gifts God has given you! Regardless of our individual circumstances, God has given all of us many blessings. What we do with those gifts is our gift back to God! By generously sharing everything we have and everything we are, we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered” and our lives truly reflect God’s light, love and mercy.

POPE FRANCIS FOOD PANTRY “To the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine,
even the least of them, you did it to Me.” - Matthew 25:40 We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with God’s Giving Hands (produce giveaway) in Port Norris and sending down 100 bags of groceries for their monthly giveaway for our brothers and sisters in that area. Due to distance and transportation many are unable to take advantage of local pantries. This would not have been possible without the continued support of parishioners, the community, M25 Initiative and the Soroptimists of Cumberland County. Thank you to all who gave donated or prayed for us. If you would like to give, checks can be mailed to the parish office 46 Central Ave., Bridgeton. Please write Pope Francis Food Pantry on the memo line. God bless you and keep you safe.

Like the disciples in today’s gospel, there are times we shut the doors of our hearts to people or events. It’s how we create emotional distance. Permanent distancing is lethal and prevents the PEACE Jesus offers you today. To help enrich your marriage and family life, go

PLEASE HELP OUR PARISH... During these troubling and unconventional times, with our parish suspending all Masses which will not be able to bring in much needed monetary gifts and contributions, we humbly ask for your support. We understand that some of you are going through rough times, but for those of you who can give, you can give to our parish through the internet. That's right, you can now give to your parish even if you cannot make it to Mass! Simply go to parishholycross.org and go to the "Donate" section on the top right-hand corner of the page or click on the link below to give to your parish! It's fast and easy! You can give one time or give recurring gifts. You also have the option to sign up for your own giving account. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and needed! You can also send in your contribution (cash or check) by mail to our parish offices at 46 Central Ave. Bridgeton, NJ 08302 and 312 N Pearl St. Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
MASS CARDS STILL AVAILABLE! Just because we do not meet publicly for Mass doesn’t mean that Masses are not being said in our parish. Despite this pandemic, Masses are still being celebrated and live-streamed. We cordially remind you that you can still request Mass intentions and get Mass cards during this time, just call (856) 455-2323 during our office business hours from Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

LA ESQUINA DEL PASTOR
Estimados Feligreses,

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
