Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, September 10, 2017 Dear Parishioners, As we gather this weekend, we continue to celebrate ordinary time, namely, the 23rd Sunday. Our readings this weekend will often make us feel rather uncom- fortable. On the one hand, all of us know that we are all sinners and as sinners we make mistakes and sometimes fall away from God and the Church. That is a fact of our lives. On the other hand, we are to have concern for other people, showing con- cern and care for their well being. That too is a fact of our lives. Combining the two together, Jesus tells us, “if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won him over.” For one, most of us would feel very uncomfortable going to someone and calling them out for something that they did to us. We would think that they should either know better or that I can’t say anything since I too do things wrong against people. And so we usu- ally keep it to ourselves, and express our displeasure through plots of revenge or just ignoring the other. Therefore, nothing gets resolved. So Jesus today calls us and challenges us to be honest with ourselves and with each other and through this type of honesty, we will make our relationships with each other much better. This takes humility, this takes respect, and this takes a lot of courage. But in the long run, this helps all of our find a sense of peace within ourselves and with each other. As you should know if you have been watching television, listening to the radio or reading the newspaper, Hurricane Harvey has had a devastating and deadly effect on all the people that it encountered Houston and the surrounding cities in Texas or Louisiana. The people in those areas are truly hurting for when one of our brothers or sisters are hurting, we all hurt in some way as the Body of Christ. As this Body of Christ, we have been asked by our bishop to respond generously to the immediate needs of these people who are hurting. We’ve been asked to take up a second collection for two weekends. But as you know, and I have stated so often, we don’t take up a second collection since we are a stewardship parish. Instead, I will send one check to Catholic Charities USA on behalf of us to support the human- itarian and recovery efforts of these people who are hurting. Catholic Charities as we all know is one organization that has very low overhead and we can be assured that the funds given will be used as intended. If anyone would like to contribute to this effort, I ask you to put your donations in an envelope with your name on it, thus you will receive credit for your gift and put this envelope with Hurricane gift on the envelope and then place it in the collection basket at Mass. We will be sending one check and not a number of them. If not in the collection, please bring your donation to the parish office this next week. Thank you for your support. I will inform you the amount that you gave and what the parish will forward to Catholic Charities USA. I will guarantee that it will be much more than what we would raise in a sec- ond collection. I just remind people that we would hope and pray that people would do the same for us if we ever found ourselves in a devastating situation as the people who have experience this Hurricane. Dear Parishioners,

Blessed Sacrament’s Protecting God’s Children Classes

The following Protecting God's Children sessions have

been scheduled at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Quincy

All sessions will be held in the Leo Amen Room (cafeteria) of

QND Pom Pon Camp

Come perform with the QND Pommers at Halftime of the

Varsity Football Game on Friday, Sept. 15th. Camp is for

girls in Pre-school (3yrs old) - 8th grade. Check in begins at

5:00 pm and camp goes from 5:30pm - until after halftime

of football game. Game starts at 7:00pm. Camp will be held

in the QND Gym. Cost is $30, which includes a t-shirt, pizza,

and admission into the game. To guarantee t-shirt size

The Ladies of Charity Thrift Store

The Ladies of Charity Thrift Store is celebrating its First

Anniversary following a very successful year at its new loca-

tion, 24th and Elm, Quincy. A big thank you goes to all the

many, many generous people who have donated items, as

well as to the many shoppers and volunteers. Your support

greatly assists the Ladies of Charity of Quincy in providing

for the needs of the poor.

Please continue to bring donations of good, usable items

of all sorts--clothing, household, knick knacks, crafts, mis-

cellaneous--to the 24th & Elm location on Tuesday, Wednes-

day, Thursday, and Saturday, from 9:00-4:00. Come to shop

any day from Tuesday through Saturday, and know that the

proceeds from every purchase support the Ladies of Charity

Center on the south end (4th & State) where food, clothing,

and household items are distributed free to those in need.

Grass Cutting Help

We need more help! Our grass cutting group is in need of

more people to help. They normally meet first thing on Wednes-

EMHC Training

We will be holding a Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Commun-

ion training for new people on Saturday, September 16th at

10:00 a.m. in the church. Please sign up in the Narthex or con-

Funeral Dishes

Remember to pick up dishes that have been used for funeral

luncheons from the gym kitchen. Thank you!

Baptism Class - Monday, October 2th

St. Peter will offer its next baptism class at 7:00 p.m.

on Monday, October 2nd in the Parish Office. Expectant

St. Veronica Guild

The St. Peter Veronica Guild will meet Thursday, Sept. 14 in

the Lower Level of the rectory after 8:00 a.m. Mass, making

prayer shawls & blankets for those who need to feel the love of

Jesus in a time of need. All are welcome, please join us!

We had our first team meeting for our RCIA process that begins this Tuesday, September 12, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Martha Jane Room near the cafe-teria (below the Church). I am very excited about our team and look forward to helping people who are in-quiring about the Catholic faith to understand its teach-ings and traditions. Right now we have about 8 new people involved in this process. It is not too late to sub-mit names to the parish office or even to just show up that first night of classes. There are no string attached and all are welcome. Again, encourage anyone who might be interested to be a part of this process. Please pray for these people that God’s grace will help and guide them.

Just to let you know that we will be having our annual Priest’s Convocation at Pere Marquette in Graf-ton from Monday, Sept. 18th to Thursday, Sept. 21st. BECAUE WE ARE AWAY FROM THE PARISH, THERE WILL BE NO MASSES ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, Sept. 19th, and 20th. Instead we will have Communion Services for these two days. Please keep us in your prayers.

Grief Sessions Starting in October Are you struggling with the loss of a loved one? Need someone to talk to? We will be offering the 4-week

“Grief Support” series for anyone in the Community who has experienced the death of a loved one. It will be

held at the St. Peter Parish Office at 2600 Maine during the month of October. The sessions include scripture,

videos, worksheets, and suggested reading material and discussions dealing with loss. Sessions will

be held: Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 PM on the following days – October 3, 10, 17 and

QND Foundation Scholarship Golf Tournament Please join us at the 32nd Annual QND Foundation Scholarship Golf Tournament, Monday, September 25, 2017, at

Westview Golf Course. Lunch and registration begin at 11:15 a.m. with tee off at noon. Proceeds benefit QND students with

financial assistance. Cost is $130 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, dinner and refreshments. Visit

Men’s Cursillo Men’s Cursillo 329 will be held September 21 – 24 in Quincy. Fr. Leo Enlow is the Spiritual Director and Mark Wiewel is the

Rector. Cursillo ("Cur see yo") is a three-day weekend that introduces people to simple methods for nurturing and growing their

relationships with Christ. It provides an experience of living in a Christian community centered in worship, prayer, study of scrip-

ture, and interaction with other Christians. The Cursillo Movement is an official movement of the Catholic Church and fully sup-
