421 St. Aloysius R. C. Church Pentecost Sunday Page Three

Fr. Rene’s Letter Dear Parishioners,

It is Pentecost Sunday. As a Church we celebrate this wonderful feast of the Holy Spirit fifty days after Easter. As the Paschal Candle burns at all Masses today, for the last time, we turn our minds and hearts to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity who is the plenitude of God’s gift to us. As the gift of God, who is Love, the Holy Spirit is God’s gift of love. In Him God shares himself as love. And in the manner of love, the Holy Spirit makes his presence known. Most of all, he effects love, forgiveness and peace, the fundamental mark of his work of sanctification.

On this final day of the Easter Season, today’s Gospel brings us once again to the risen Lord’s first

meeting with his disciples. In this succinct episode, the resurrected Lord suddenly appears to his miserable, fearful, and dejected friends, and greets them twice with, “Peace be with you.” Seeing their misery, he makes no reproach to his unfaithful friends, but brings them peace and indescribable joy. They find in his living presence, not a litany of their failures, but peace and joy. He grants them the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of sins to enable them to start a new life possible. And for them to make a new start, they need the Holy Spirit, the power behind all new beginnings, conversion and transformation. From being miserable and fearful disciples to bold, daring, and courageous witnesses. From guilt-ridden lives to pardoned, forgiven, and peace-filled lives.

As God’s gift to us, the Holy Spirit is not a temporary gift, but a permanent one. Because God’s love is

abiding and enduring, the Holy Spirit remains and endures in us. He delights to inspire all our actions, directs them, moves them, and impels them toward God. Because He is a divine person, we can have relations with him. As we resume Ordinary Time on Monday, May 21st, our holy Mother Church invites us to be docile and generous to his invitations and promptings. We let him work and direct our souls continually to God. What a tremendous gift of God to us!

Amidst the stormy weather last Tuesday evening, our Re-Ed kids came and held a wonderful concert.

Through their songs, they expressed with joy their gratitude to God, to their parents, to our dedicated volunteer parish catechists, to Mrs. S, to our volunteer moms. Also, they enjoyed their cross shaped chocolates and ice cream. Good job, everyone. Rest, enjoy your summer and see you in September.

Next weekend, David Mollon III, a parishioner, lector and an Eagle Scout candidate, will be speaking

briefly at all Masses. His project is to convert the old pantry venue into a formation and meeting room. Let us support him in this important project.

Please join me in thanking the Columbiettes for their $500 donation to our pantry. May God continue to

bless you all and supply your needs. Finally, how do you know that carrots are good for your eyesight? Have you ever seen a rabbit with eyeglasses?

Peace!

Fr. Rene
