From Fr. Rene’s Desk

As we set our vision on the coming Advent Season (start of Year B), the Season of Coming, we are called on this penultimate Sunday of the liturgical year (Year A) to focus on the last things of life and the world, and to reach our heavenly homeland. Following the parable of the ten virgins which highlights our need to prepare to remain awake, doing good for the coming of Christ, the bridegroom, today’s parable of the talents is an invitation to live in such a way that we make the best use of the gifts God has given us.

The parable relates to us the story of a very rich person who entrusted very large sums of money

(talents) to three of his servants, each according to his personal ability: five, two, and one. He freely bestowed responsibility and a chance for unsupervised action upon them, and expected them to manage his assets well, invested profitably and not be diminished. Through skillful trading and investing, two of the servants performed well, doubling their master’s money. However, the third one did nothing to make the enormous amount he received to profit more. He was afraid to take the risk, afraid of the consequences of losing all the money, and afraid of the master’s reaction if he did. On the day of accounting, the master rewarded the two clever servants (“Come, share your master’s joy”), but punished the third servant whom he called “wicked and slothful”. He took the servant’s talent and gave it to the clever servants. Clearly, the master didn’t want security but initiative and fruitfulness.

What we are and what we have are God’s finest gift to us. No one is gifted with nothing. And as God’s

steward, we are only asked to make full use of them for the benefit of the Church and society. Each of us, as a trustee, should take the risk for our Lord Jesus, who risked everything for our redemption. Accordingly, God would like us to be his wonderful employees who identify with his interests, and who view our distinctive talents as a chance to do something creative, sensible, and courageous; God’s employees who are zealous, enthusiastic, and ready for action.

Covid-19 still persists, putting us all at risk, especially the elderly and those with existing medical

condition. We are not yet back to normal. Dispensation from attending Sunday Mass is still in effect. And our Church operates at a 50% capacity. To protect us from the pandemic, let’s continue to observe social distancing while in Church and wear our mask.

Congratulations to the following RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) elect: Kate Chang, Mia

Carillo, Christopher Moon, and Adrian Hong who received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Communion) last Sunday, Nov. 8; and Esvin Miranda, Vicenta Ruiz, Candelaria Henriquez, and Jymmy Campos Aragon, last Saturday, November 14.

Our Mass on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, is at 9:00AM. Also, that’s your pastor’s birthday.

Please pray for him. Finally, a guy was having trouble trusting. His friend said, “I know the best solution to your problem.

A parachute jump will fix your problem of trust and lack of confidence.” They took the guy up for a jump. But just before he was to jump he got very nervous. His friend assured him, “It’s very easy. You jump out, and then pull the rip cord. If for some reason it doesn’t work, you pull the second cord, which is a back-up, guaranteed absolutely to work. Trust me. Just enjoy your trip down and a car will be waiting for you and will drive you back to the airport.” So the guy jumped out of the plane. He pulled the rip cord and nothing happened. “Oh, no,” he thought. I’ll pull the back-up cord.” He did. Nothing happened. And the guy said to himself, “Oh, no. And I bet the car won’t be there either.” Peace, Fr. Rene

All students in grades K - 8 have successfully attended their first "gathering" of this unusual year. Some families have opted out due to Covid and others have not replied at all but the large majority now have their books and the first 4 assignments and we are so proud of them! All work will be done at home with a parent. Periodically we will "gather" again to check work and give new assignments. Catechists have been assisting to check the work and to clean the church after each session.

Our next gathering dates will be as follow:

The good news of today’s Gospel is the extravagance of what is being given us. All we need do is be faithful in “small matters.” The cost of fidelity has no comparison to the reward given. When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you are sharing God’s extravagant love. The clothing bins in the church parking lot are again open for your donations

Thank You for your support. IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM OUTREACH

& ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Due to COVID-19, for sanitary/health reasons, St. Aloysius Outreach Office/St. Vincent de Paul Society are no longer accepting donations of clothing or household items. If you have clothing to donate kindly put your donations in a plastic bag and drop it into the St. Vincent de Paul green bins, located in our parking lot. Remember the bins are ONLY for clothing.

Please do not leave donations (boxes, book, toys etc.) outside the bins.

We appreciate your cooperation in these critical times. Thank you.

We still observe the following guidelines from the Diocese as regards to the resumption of Church Services: (Updated October 26, 2020) From The Office Of The Vicar General: 1. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days remains in effect. 2. Churches may host up to 50% of capacity. Some parishes have implemented creative ideas for

maximizing space (for example: dividing your church into sections, such as a section for families, a section for couples, and a section for individuals, allowing greater consolidation of space).

3. The earliest time normally permitted for a “vigil Mass” that fulfills the Sunday and Holy Day obligations is 4:00 PM. However, it is within the authority of the Diocesan Bishop to permit earlier times in exceptional circumstances. Keeping in mind that Mass attendance obligations remain suspended, and given the extraordinary circumstances of COVID, an exception will be granted for Christmas of 2020 only.

At the discretion of the pastor, Christmas Eve Masses may be celebrated beginning at 2:00 PM. This exception may only be applied to Christmas Eve Masses (December 24), and only for the year 2020. Multiple, simultaneous Masses are certainly permitted where possible. This accommodation is a good faith effort to offer greater options to parishes and ease the possibility of larger attendances. All other “vigil Masses” throughout the year are expected to abide by the 4:00 PM or later requirement 4. Some questions have been raised with regards to other specific liturgical details within the protocols (i.e.

processions). Offertory processions should remain suspended. Entrance processions and recessionals can be left to the discretion of the pastor. It may be advisable to continue simple entrances (such as those that begin in the sacristy), while allowing a normal recessional in order for the celebrant to (responsibly) greet the people as they exit.

The remainder of the protocols continue to be in effect. Masks, social distancing, and cleaning protocols should be carefully observed.
