PENNY WARS FOR THE POOR:

Our congregation is participating in the 18th Annual “Penny Wars for the Poor”, a charitable chal-lenge to all local faith communities to see which congregation can collect the most pennies. All pro-ceeds will be donated to C.E.O. Proceeds will be used to help needy families with children, and dis-advantaged senior citizens. We have 40 days and 40 nights to “pool our pennies”. A container in which to deposit your pennies will be located in the vesti-bule of the church. Let’s give our idle pennies a purpose and make every “red cent” count!

St. Maria Goretti Church in Laflin, PA will host the 11th annual celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday on April 23, 2017 beginning at 1:00 PM.

All are welcome to attend!

In 1991 Sister Eileen Egan, an impassioned IHM Missionary to the people of Peru, visited St. Therese’s Parish in Shavertown, PA to share her mis-sion experiences with the faith community. After hearing Sister Eileen’s presentation, Monsignor Kev-in O’Neill and his parishioners offered to donate 2% of the highest collection each month to the Peruvian mission needs. Initially, the parish provided funds to cover the cost of medical treatment for a mother with tuberculosis.

The parish then adopted nine year old Rufina, a girl from Sicuani, Peru was orphaned. With the support of the parishioners of St. Therese’s, Rufina was placed in a home for children where she continuously experi-enced the love and support of the parish and the IHM Sisters. Today Rufina is a 35-year-old woman mar-ried to Valetine and the mother of six children, ages 3 to 14.

The faithful financial contributions of St. Therese’s Parish continue to bless Rufina and her family with the support they need.

Additionally, the fund provided financial support for a young boy, Victor, while he was living in Sicuani. As an adolescent, Victor accepted an invitation to come to the United States from Sister Eileen who made arrangements through a Marywood University professor. After learning English and graduating from high school, Victor went on to work at Marywood University where he earned both bachelor’s and mas-ter’s degrees. He is currently employed in Scranton.

Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to Father James J. Paisley and the entire parish community of St. Therese’s whose faithful stewardship inspires us all!

Gratefully, Sisters of IHM

THE IDEA THAT BLOSSOMED INTO FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better

than we know ourselves. You call us to holiness

and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church,

for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ

your Son. Liberate us from all that keeps us

from you. Heal us from every form

of sin and violence. Transform us to live your Word

more profoundly. Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families.

May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love,

freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice.

We believe you are doing something new,

calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life.

Amen.
