The Panda Society of China Yuzhe Tao

Last summer on my trip back to China, I discovered something interesting butunusual. It is a tale that I’ve hesitated to tell until now.

It all began a week after I entered the borders of China. I really wanted to meet

the U.S. Olympic Basketball Team, so I called up my dad’s old buddy Yao Ming. Yao

took me on a trip with the Chinese national team to Beijing, where we met up with

Team USA. After chatting for a while, Kobe mentions that he has never beheld a

panda bear before. So Yao used some of his connections and ended up getting a trip

for all of us to go visit the pandas.

At the containment facility, there were hundreds of huge, jacked pandas crawling

on trees and laying on boulders. As the tour guide led us through the corridors, I

noticed a room with a sign that read “Panda Instructors Only”.

“Excuse me, what’s behind this door?” I asked in Chinese

“Oh, that room is for authorized personnel only, and for national security

purposes, everything that happens in that room, stays in that room,” replied the tour

guide.

Those words got me thinking, and my curiosity got the best of me.

So that night, I snuck out of my hotel room and slipped into my ninja outfit. My

training was finally about to pay off. As I leapt from rooftop to rooftop in the darkness

of the night, I remembered a line that my uncle Jet Li use to say all the time: “Stealth

is the most powerful weapon in anyone’s arsenal.”At midnight, I arrived before the large building and quickly escaped from sight.

After hiding behind a large dumpster, I peeked out and noticed several cameras

pointing at the large steel front door and motion sensors everywhere. So, I swung to

the back entrance, making sure to keep out of sight.

I picked the locks with great ease and began searching my memory for the

location of the forbidden room. I stealthily maneuvered towards the forbidden room

and carefully picked the lock, taking my time.

The door unbolted and swung open just a little. The room was rather large but

poorly lit. I peeked inside and the things that I saw were startling. There were at least

30 pandas crawling and exercising. Some of them were running drills and dodging

obstacles. Trainers in black suits were training them and barking orders at the pandas.

I could tell that these pandas were part of Special Operations and would take on

difficult tasks to defend the nation.

I silently crept inside and hid behind some barrels. I took out my digital camera

and quickly took some pictures. Apparently, one of the men noticed my presence

because he screamed in Chinese, and soon all the trainers were jumping down the

artificial hill.

I pulled the door open and sprinted out knocking over boxes and bags of panda

food. My heart was pounding against my chest as I bolted down the hall and towardsthe stairs. I turned my head and saw about 10 guys with swords and rifles in their
