P ATRIOT P RESS The We hope you are enjoying your spring break and making wonderful memories with your families! This is certainly a beautiful time of year in our state. We are excited to announce that the cafeteria expansion construction project has begun. As you return to school, you will see equipment and construction folks working hard for our school. I have been assured that this project will NOT impede the blue lot for drop off and pick up in any way. We will continue as usual with our blue lot drop off and pick up and we are grateful for that. If you use our before school care pro- gram, however, be aware that the entrance will be to the right of the cafeteria instead of through the exterior cafeteria doors. This new en- trance will remain in place for the remainder of the school year for our morning care. This construction project is scheduled to be completed by August 1st. A big thank you to everyone who came out to support our students in their performance of Beauty and the Beast! What a success and what a showing of support. We are grateful to the many hands that played a part in this experience for children. We certainly have talented kids here at Patriot Oaks! Our 8th graders had an amazing trip to Washington DC this past week. They got to experience the city, the capitol, the museums and snow! Thank you to all the parents and teachers that helped chaperone. Our students were outstanding and made this principal very proud! We invite all of our volunteers to join us for a breakfast on Friday, April 6, in your honor! We are so grateful for your time and efforts each day. Words do not seem adequate to express our appreciation but we will try to show our thanks with a breakfast made by our staff for you. See you all on Friday at 9am. As always, we thank you for trusting us with your children. We love them and we love what we do. Patriot Oaks is a wonderful place! P ATRIOT P RESS The

We hope you are enjoying your spring break and making wonderful

memories with your families! This is certainly a beautiful time of year in

our state.

We are excited to announce that the cafeteria expansion construction

project has begun. As you return to school, you will see equipment and

construction folks working hard for our school. I have been assured

that this project will NOT impede the blue lot for drop off and pick up in

any way. We will continue as usual with our blue lot drop off and pick

up and we are grateful for that. If you use our before school care pro-

gram, however, be aware that the entrance will be to the right of the

cafeteria instead of through the exterior cafeteria doors. This new en-

trance will remain in place for the remainder of the school year for our

morning care. This construction project is scheduled to be completed

by August 1st.

A big thank you to everyone who came out to support our students in

their performance of Beauty and the Beast! What a success and what

a showing of support. We are grateful to the many hands that played a

part in this experience for children. We certainly have talented kids

here at Patriot Oaks!

Our 8th graders had an amazing trip to Washington DC this past week.

They got to experience the city, the capitol, the museums and snow!

Thank you to all the parents and teachers that helped chaperone. Our

students were outstanding and made this principal very proud!

We invite all of our volunteers to join us for a breakfast on Friday, April

6, in your honor! We are so grateful for your time and efforts each day.

Words do not seem adequate to express our appreciation but we will

try to show our thanks with a breakfast made by our staff for you. See

you all on Friday at 9am.

As always, we thank you for trusting us with your children. We love

them and we love what we do. Patriot Oaks is a wonderful place!

Applications for the summer Marine Science Program were passed out at all schools during the week of February 12th. Applications were due back to science teachers by February 28th . Applications can still be downloaded at any time from the website prior to April 15th at http://www-grms.stjohns.k12.fl.us/ and click on the Marine Science link. The link also will have a complete day by day curriculum for each grade level, parent information, and a video from last year’s program. This summer program is available to all students currently in grades five through seven and has been sponsored by the school district since 1982. Three eight day sessions are held at Gamble Rogers Middle School with bus transportation provided. The dates for the three sessions this summer will be May 29th through June 7th, June 11th through June 21st , and June 25th through July 6th. Small classes of 12-14 students are separated by grade level. All instructors in the program are St. Johns County School District teachers. The Marine Science Program is a carefully designed experience for responsible students who are interested in learning about our local marine environments. Learning is “hands on” in the field with students kayaking, canoeing, boating, hiking, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, surfing, SUP, (stand up paddleboarding), etc. Specific grade level activities and curriculum are attached to the applica-tions and are also available from the website.

More information about the program can be had by emailing [email protected] .

EXTENDED DAY FOR NEXT YEAR

The school year is quickly coming to a close in just a few months. That means

that your current PTO board is actively starting the planning process for the next

school year. We have several open positions for the 2018-2019 PTO Board and

we need parent volunteers to fill these positions. Parent volunteers are crucial

so the PTO can maintain the level of support that it has been providing to our

wonderful school. We do not want to loose any momentum in what we have

been able to do for our students, faculty and staff at Patriot Oaks Academy!

We are asking that any parent that is interested in being nominated for one of

the following open positions, to please contact our nominating committee chair,

Allison Ziff at [email protected] for further information and to

receive information on each specific positions duties and responsibilities. Nomi-

nees will be presented at the April general PTO meeting.

Vice President of Fund Raising Treasurer Recording Secretary On behalf of your PTO Board, thank you for your continued support.

Moving?

Don’t forget – if you move out of our school zone, you must stop by

our front office and fill out a withdrawal form. We cannot drop your

student nor release records to the new school until we have this

form.

Also, if you will be moving out of our school zone over the Summer,

please let us know as soon as possible so that we can adequately plan and, again, have

proper withdrawal forms ready to go.

Lease Expiring/Renewing?

If you currently have a lease that will expire before the end of the

school year or during the Summer, you will need to provide us with

a copy of your lease renewal documents (plus current utility bills) in

order for your student(s) to remain enrolled at POA. If you move,

we will need to have copies of all your new residency documents.
