The Senior Awards Ceremony was recently held in the auditorium of the Hudson High School. During this time, nearly one hundred awards and scholarships were handed out to students who were deemed eligible. The students who were chosen for an award filled out an application and modeled the characteristics of a well-rounded individual. In total, over $58,000 worth of scholarships were handed out! The awards ranged from academic excel- lence to athletic skill to community service awards. These awards were announced and pre- sented by fellow teachers and student council members, followed by a moving speech from Dr. Suttmeier. After all awards were given out, the class advisor, Mrs. Bender, along with the class officer executives, shared a few words with the audience. This included giving thanks, sharing gifts, and reliving memories. Finally, the ceremony ended with the Senior video, pro- duced, edited, and created by the Yearbook Club and Class of 2017. The night was filled with excitement, joy, and fond moments, and even many laughs here and there. The scholarships will put the graduating seniors on the right path to success. I wanted to ask a few teachers their parting advice for the seniors, being that they are going are go-

ing off to college or the work force. Below are their responses.

Mrs. Abitabile: “Believe in hard work and perseverance. Never give up on yourself”

Mr. Hernandez: “You are your biggest advocate. Speak up for yourself, get to know your professors,

go to office hours. Guidance counselors, other teachers, and your parents are not going to be there

to make sure you are doing what you need to do. It is up to you.”

Mr. Antonelli: “Remember to do your own work, work hard and do your best. It will pay off in the

end.”

Mrs. Cipollari: “Do the best you can in college. It will pay off for the rest of your life. Love what

you do. You want to enjoy your career. Make the best of everything!”

Mrs. Near: “Take chances, embrace change, dream big. Enjoy every minute of college. Do what you

love.”

On Saturday, June 3, the Class of 2017 held its senior prom at Anthony’s Banquet Hall. Class advi-

sor, Mrs. Bender, worked tirelessly to give the class a memorable evening with a Great Gatsby

theme. Seniors Jared Busta and Rebecca Decker were crowned Prom King and Queen.

First it was the Rojan water sampling, now it is Nest Watch. Students, under the leadership

of Mr. McDarby, have been receiving opportunities to collect data that will be used by Cornell. Nest-

Watch is a citizen science project that tracks status and trends in the reproductive biology of birds

across the United States, including when nesting occurs, number of eggs laid, how many eggs hatch,

and how many nestlings survive.

The students involved are volunteers from both of the A.P. Biology classes, who from the

start were eager. Before the students could participate, they had to take a quiz to receive a certifica-

tion to do so.

That time of year is rolling around, summer! With summer comes unhealthy food, ice cream, soda,

cake, etc! Anything that can cool down the heat that comes with summer is refreshing. For Students

on the Run, or even just students looking for a quick easy snack for the summer, we have a 5 Mi-

nute Tropical Dessert Parfait!

Ingredients:

3 drops coconut extract

1 (6-ounce) container fat-free vanilla or mango yogurt

Half a banana (or fruit of your choosing), sliced into coins

¼ cup chopped mango (or fruit of your choosing)

2 tablespoons fat-free whipped topping

(optional):1 teaspoon shredded sweetened coconut, toasted if you want

(optional): spearmint leaves for garnish

Directions:

Add coconut extract to yogurt and mix well

Spoon half of the yogurt into a glass, and then top with half of the banana and half of the mango

Repeat layering with the remaining yogurt, banana, and mango (or optional fruit)

Top with whipped topping and coconut shreds with spearmint and enjoy!
