Introduction Oslo is a city located in the country of
Norway. The beautiful fjord with blue
water. The tall mountains at which
people ski on constantly in the winter.
Beaches where kids play in the warm
waters during the summer. The rich
history of art and the vikings. You can
find it all here in the city of Oslo. But on
July 22nd an unbelievable event
happened. This event will stay in the
hearts of everyone in Norway for years
to come. The calm waters were not so
calm anymore. The quiet streets on this
Norwegian holiday were not so quiet
anymore.

July 22nd, 2011 On the sunny, summer
day of July 22nd two
terrorist attacks
occured in Oslo
Norway. Just outside of
the Prime Minister’s
Office in Oslo was a
van with a bomb inside
which went off
approximently 3:25 in
the afternoon . 7 people
were killed and 20
hospitalised .
Utøya shooting A little after the bomb went off near
the prime minister’s office a man
dressed as a police officer boarded on
the ferry to get to Utøya. With him on
the boat was a Youth Labour camp
going to the island. The Officer then
began a shooting. About 80 people
died in this shooting. The man
collecting change on the boat stated „I
thought he was just a normal police
officer, He seemed like it”
To the left is a
overview of the
small island of
Utøya.
Norwegian Police forces came in
after the call of the shooting to find
the man. They confirmed 80 people
died at this shooting. The shooting
was the second terrorist attack on
this day, by the same guy.

A Day Later:
Confessions
A day later still nobody knew who had
comitted this
horrible crime that
has sent Norway
into shock. Until...a
32 year old man,
Anders Breivik,
Killer of 80 people,
stepped forward to
confess. He said
that he wanted to spread
awareness to the Norwegian
people about the „Muslim
Invasion” and that „Its was meant
to be used as a very powerful
psychological weapon.” Breivik has charges
of terrorism and premeditated murder. As
further investigation goes on about any
mental disorders Breivik states that he wants
to be found sane so his anit-islam awareness
will be taken seriously. He wants people to
know it was him and that he is proud of it.
This is something to not be proud of at all.
Above is a picture of
Anders Breivik, age 32.
committing one of the
worst crimes since World
war II
Breivik growing up recieved
very little education after
dropping out of high school
before graduation. He then
joined the right-wing Progress
Party, against immigration. As
further investigations went on
Breivik they found he made
millions from forging
documents and qualifications in
order to create buisnesses. If
Breivik is found sane they will
sentence him to 21 years in jail
but can have more if he is
seemed to cause
danger to the
norwegian society.
After acguiring
deadly weapons
from unkown
sources and different
countries Breivik
dedicated himself to
military training
Early Life
A Closer Look We have learned the details about
the event but what goes one in the
peoples mind? Here is an interview
with a person who lives in Norway.
Her name is Ginny Hubert:
Could you feel the blast? Where were you at the time?
I did not feel the bomb when it went off. My son and I
were at the dock at Skåtøy waiting for the ferry - we
were returning to Oslo.
What was your first reaction when you heard about it?
We had turned on the radio while we were waiting and
heard the first announcement of the bomb in the
Government Quarter and the first thought was
terrorists.
How is the rebuilding going in Oslo?
There has been a debate as to whether they should raze
the whole building and rebuild, or if they should restore
the existing building. Many people feel that if the
building is rebuilt, it would mean that the bomber had
"won"; that if the existing building was
restored it would mean Norwegians
weren't going to let him alter their way
of life. Others felt that the center of
power (government) should be spread
out so that any attack would not affect
the whole government and it would be
easier to conduct security. I believe the
decision was to restore the
building - and that will take a while. In the meantime,
government offices are in temporary locations other
places in the city.
How far were building broken, (shattered windows etc.)?
2-3 blocks away there were buildings destroyed.
Could you say something about the Rose Ceremony?
Very quickly people began placing roses near the
bombed buildings and at the cathedral. It was suggested
that there be a torch parade from the cathedral to the
City Hall - people pointed out that the torches were not
the right message - the message should be about taking
care of each other - so people brought roses instead.
There were so many people that a parade was
impossible, so they gathered at City Hall, where there
was set up a stage and artists were to sing etc at the end
of the parade. My two sons and I went to town and were
there when the sea of people held their flowers in the air
and were completely quiet for one minute.....it was
eerie....there were flowers all over the city - fastened to
light posts, fountains, fences and especially at the
Government Quarter.
Anything else you would like to add?
Breivik has ruined and damaged so many lives and,
during the trials has shown no remorse, in fact at times
appears proud of his deeds, which he says were
necessary to save us all from the islam curse. No matter
what happens to him, the dead cannot be brought back
and the mutilated cannot be made whole again. This
happened a place where it shouldn't have been able to
happen - and yet there are so many in the world that
this is their every day life ...
The Rose Ceremony Streets covered in millions of roses,
hung on lamp posts, stuck on
fountains, on statues and laid all over
closed streets. Also there was
candles and signs Here are some
pictures of the rose ceremony
dedicated to all the lost lives
