MATCH COMMITTEE The Match Committee, members consisting of Becky, Bobbie, Jen and self, met on December 11th for an initial meeting in preparation for the Match. We covered all of the points on the Agenda and then attended the OKA General Membership meeting following our meeting at Cracker Barrel. We will next meet at the Storage Unit in Cicero to inventory the materials in storage and to determine what needs to be replenished or ordered. We plan to hold another meeting in February as a pre-meeting to the Match to tie up any loose ends. As a reminder, the OKA AKC Sanctioned Match will be held on Sunday, March 15th at the SOTC site. As always many hands are needed for set-up, stewarding, day of Match and take down. Thanks to the Committee in advance for all of the work they are doing and to the OKA member that always support this Match in full with a great Team effort. Judges have been selected and confirmed. A flyer will be distributed in the very near future as well as entry information. We are excited about our Match and know it will be a huge success, as always!! Spot Light On our Veteran Dogs.
Smooth Collie Bonus, GCHS Travler’s Nissan Rogue CD BN CGC, was BOV from the Veteran’s class at the Keystone Collie Club’s designated specialty with Bucks County KC, and made an appearance in the televised Bucks groups on AKC TV. He has won 49 grand champion points this year from the Veteran’s class this year. We had retired him with 300 GCH points and a silver grand championship, but brought him out for Veteran’s this year so he could have some fun. After several nice wins, including winning his Veteran’s class at our national specialty and 3 BOS in specialty (which means he beat the rough males!), at age 9 he needs just 51 more points for his Gold GCH. He has been handled this year by his special friend, Kelly Reppert, while Bree has been handling kennelmate Kimmie. Becky Tehon
Dillon belonging to Suzy Beyer is the first dog to be featured in my New section. Meet the Vetran Dogs of OKA members. They can be preformance brags or Conformation brags.

Our featured AKC Cares charitable affiliate this week is AKC Reunite. You may be confident your dog will never leave your house, but what happens when your house leaves your dog? Dangerous fires, floods hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes can put the lives of our loved ones - including our pets - in peril. Too often, pet lovers make life-threatening choices and ignore evacuation orders because they do not want to leave their beloved pets behind.
This is why AKC Reunite donates much needed temporary pet sheltering supplies to local Emergency Management Teams. This equipment is used to set up safe refuge for people and their pets at the same shelter location.
Help us stock more local communities with the life-saving supplies needed to rescue and shelter those in need when the unthinkable happens. Donate to the AKC Reunite Pet Disaster Relief Fund, today. In 1877, New York was well on its way to becoming the world’s greatest city. This was the year that a
group of sporting gentlemen decided that this would be a good time to hold a dog show in Manhattan. It
didn’t take long before the Westminster Kennel Club, following the lead of its home town, would be on its
way to becoming the world’s greatest dog show. Our mission is "to celebrate the companionship of dogs
while promoting responsible dog ownership, health, and breed preservation."

AKC Breed of the Month
IRISH WOLFHOUND
AKC Breed Popularity: Ranks 76 of 193 Height: 32 inches minimum (male), 30 inches minimum (female) Weight: 120 pounds (male), 105 pounds (female) Life Expectancy: 6-8 years Group: Hound Group
Temperament: Courageous, Dignified, Calm
The calm, dignified, and kindly Irish Wolfhound is the tallest of all AKC breeds. Once fearless big-game hunters capable of dispatching a wolf in single combat, Wolfhounds today are the most serene and agreeable of companions.
About the Irish Wolfhound
The amiable Irish Wolfhound is an immense, muscular hound gracefully built along classic Greyhound lines, capable of great speed at the gallop. A male might stand nearly 3 feet at the shoulder and weigh up to 180 pounds. Females will run smaller but are still a whole lot of hound. The rough, hard coat comes in many colors, including white, gray, brindle, red, black, and fawn.
IWs are too serene to be fierce guard dogs, but just the sight of them is enough to deter intruders. IWs are characteristically patient with kids, though animals their size should be supervised around small children. Owning an Irish Wolfhound is a unique, rewarding experience—but acquiring a giant galloping hound is a commitment as big as the dog itself.
National Breed Clubs and Rescue
Want to connect with other people who love the same breed as much as you do? We have plenty of opportunities to get involved in your local community, thanks to AKC Breed Clubs located in every state, and more than 450 AKC Rescue Network groups across the country.
