The CONNECTION A Note From Pastor Stephanie

“Is anyone among you in

trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone

happy? Let them sing songs of

praise. Is anyone among you sick?

Let them call the elders of the

church to pray over them and

anoint them with oil in the name of

the Lord. And the prayer offered

in faith will make the sick person

well, the Lord will raise them up.

If they have sinned they will be

forgiven. Therefore, confess your

sins to each other and pray for

each other so that you may be

healed. The prayer of a righteous

person is powerful and effective.”

James 5:13-16 NIV.

During this month of

February, we will be having a prayer

revival for three nights (February 20,

21, and 22). Lent begins on February

14th. Lent is a time for prayer and

reflection as we wait for the

celebration of the resurrection of

Christ on Easter Sunday morning

which this year is April 1. Isn’t it

interesting that Ash Wednesday falls

on Valentine’s Day, the day the

world celebrates love, (not as the

Christian knows love) and Easter

falls on April’s Fools Day, the day

Satan was fooled, and Jesus rose

from the grave.

As we prepare our hearts

during this Lenten Season let us

remember the words in Scripture

from James 5:13-16. God hears our

prayers and He will answer.

During the prayer revival, we

will have a prayer guide to help us

focus on needs to pray for each day.

If you are able, fast from one meal a

day and let the Holy Spirit speak to

you. Seek how God would have you

pray and who to pray for as you open

your heart to hear from God.

Remember the prayer of a

righteous person is powerful and

effective. .

Blessings and love,

Pastor Stephanie and

Jack

Cheerful Ministry 2018

We are kicking off a new year with our Cheerful Hearts ministry to the 4 Spectra Care Adult Homes. It will be a “Year of Celebrations” with each of the events themed to celebrate God’s goodness. We will start with our Feb. 13th event as a Celebration of God’s Love. We will need volunteers in the kitchen, greeters, game “coaches”, and folks who can help us straighten up at the end. Our 45 guests will be looking forward to sharing the afternoon with us beginning at 5:00 and winding down around 6:30 following our evening devotional. Please make plans to extend the hand of fellowship and give a warm welcome to our very special guests in the name of Jesus. Let’s Celebrate God’s Love by sharing it!

Love In Action International Ministries spreads

the Gospel of Jesus Christ through acts of

compassion in our hometown of Dothan, Ala.,

inner cities throughout the US, and other parts

of the world. Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:35-

40 that we are to take care of the neediest

among us. In verse 40 He says, "I assure you:

Whatever you did for one of the least of these

brothers of Mine, you did for Me."

They also believe in carrying out the Great

Commission Jesus gives all of His followers in

Matthew 28:19-20. Therefore, we go to the

nations reaching the lost and unreached

people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and

make disciples.

Bishop David Graves’s passion is sharing Jesus, seeing the overlooked, joining God in transforming lives, and changing the world one person at a time. His study of leadership permeates all his work as a pastor, district superintendent and bishop. As a pastor, Bishop Graves led a small-membership church to become a medium-sized congregation and later a medium-sized church to become a large-membership congregation. He has a heart and hands for missions and has led several short-term (local, national, and international) mission teams. The Acts 1:8 model for missions came alive in the churches he has served. These churches raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for mission work, plus trained laity in hands-on ministry.

As a district superintendent, Bishop Graves implemented a district strategy that empowered both clergy and laity with leadership tools for effective and vital ministry. This strategy revitalized several churches that experienced growth in worship attendance and membership; Sunday School and small group discipleship; missional giving and professions of faith. On Christmas Eve 2014, through a district offering, the Kingsport District generously gave more $230,000 for the District Partnership with Giru, South Sudan. Bishop Graves previously served as the Senior Pastor of Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. Prior to Church Street, he served six years as the district superintendent for the Kingsport District of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 2011 and 2012, he served as Dean of the Cabinet. He has been an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church for over 27 years and previously served as Senior Pastor of Ooltewah United Methodist Church, a large-membership church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for 11 years. Prior, he served as pastor of two Kingsport area churches, St. Matthew and Mountain View United Methodist. He was on staff and was given his first appointment at Hixson United Methodist Church in the Chattanooga area where he served for 11 years. Bishop Graves is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, with a Master of Divinity. He has shared 35 years of marriage with his wife, Nancy, and they have two children, Casey and Gregg. Casey is married to her husband Bryan, and they reside in Kingsport with their son Brooks. Bishop Graves' and Nancy’s son, Gregg, lives and works in the Chattanooga area. One of the Bishop's best friends with whom he enjoys spending long walks is his golden retriever, Charley.
