I can’t believe it is September already and hope everyone is staying cool during this heat wave we are having. Stop by the Club and cool down. We have a lot of fun things planned this month, but first I would like to thank Karen and Fleet Captain Tony for doing an excellent job on the Luau Cruise. Perfect weather and a very large turnout. Thanks for all of the hard work Karen and Tony.

Coming Up This Labor Day Weekend:

Curt Bersche - Commodore

TEXAS BBQ – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 – 5pm-9pm Come on up to the Club for this incredible feast prepared by Staff Commodores Kent Andersson and Barrie Harnett. Shoreline Yacht Club and Seal Beach Yacht Club will be joining us so this is sure to be an awesome time. If that is not enough, we will also be celebrating the birthdays of Staff Commodore Barrie Harnett, Brad Terpak and Scott LaMay.

DOG DAZE OF SUMMER – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 – 12:00PM-5:00PM New member, Connie Schurr, has a special Officer of the Day planned for us filled with official Dodger Dogs, Coney Island Beef Franks and Vegan franks. Also, plenty of special toppings for your dogs.

LABOR DAY BBQ – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 – 12:00 PM Bring your own protein and the Club will provide the side dishes. The grills will be fired up by noon. PMYC’s annual Swap Meet is Saturday, September 16 from 6:00AM-1:30PM. Sign up this weekend so you are guaranteed a spot. We will also be having an open house and membership drive with live music. There will be plenty of food and refreshments. Also, please contact me if you would like to volunteer to help out. This event is a lot of fun, but also a lot of work for those that are putting it on. Please see attached flyer for more information. On Saturday, September 23 we are hosting the Women on Water after-race party. Keith & Tony will have more information on this event in their articles. Mark your calendars. On Monday, September 25 at 7:00PM, Erica Cirino, science photojournalist from Plastic Change, will be giving a presentation about their travels, what they have found at sea, the latest science on plastic pollution and what is being done to combat the problem. Come up to the Club for what is certain to be an educational presentation. Well, that’s all I have for this month. Thanks and see you at the Club or on the water!

Tony Milazzo - Fleet Captain Luau Cruise - Special thanks to Karen Majdali for making a delicious Hawaiian feast for all the members on Friday night onboard "Bella Vita". Awesome turnout! Almost 40 or us! There was still room for a few more! Lol Saturday morning started off with a Nature Walk to Cat Harbor from Doug’s Reef. This walk was hosted by Ken Price and was suppose to be an hour or so but turned into over 2 hours of fun and historical facts! Maybe not? You had to be there! Awards are as follows…

Giving out the awards and prizes was a lot of fun. PMYC didn't get that low on the limbo, but several did! Russ was amazing! Did it twice legit in a arched back surfer position and proved he was top dog! Yes, 3 first place winners! I have video replay if anyone is interested. lol The Luau Buffet catered by the island company was great! Everyone filled up and there was plenty of food. Even took some back to the clubhouse on Sunday. There was 45 of us for dinner. Thanks everyone for a awesome turnout! Women On The Water/Woman At The Helm (WOW/WOH) is September 23 & 24. PMYC is hosting the after race party on Saturday, Sept. 23. Emerald Bay is coming up quick! September 30, Oct 1st & 2nd. Please get signed up soon. We will need to know what we are looking at for food, drinks and moorings. Get me your info the sooner the better. Lots of surprises planned! Contact me for more info. Lots of prizes will be given away! Don't miss this last cruise of the year with PMYC! Karen and I have been having a lot of fun hosting the cruises and parties this year and we are not done yet!

“Usta Be" Award (living in the past): Jovan Radic Most Gullible Award: Gina Haase Best Eagle Award: Michael McKinsey Most Interruptions Award: Roxann Bersche Wild Card/Beastie Boy Award: Curt Bersche Best British Humor: Gary Simpson Most True Facts: Brad & Linda Terpak Most Memorable Quote or Funny - Picked by the Luau audience: Ken Price for his "Chicken Joke." On Saturday, Oct 14th the Chuck Stein - Heather Perkoff Race will take place. If you have a sailboat and have never raced or race regularly, this is the race for you! Contact me to know more or for help. This is a great time to fly your burgee and get out on the water and do the course for a few hours with friends or family. I need my fleet! PLEASE sign up and come out for the fun! Now I will tell you the reward...you get to come back to a raging after party at the clubhouse with a Pasta Bar by Karen and live island music from Unkle Monkey. We will be giving out awards, prizes & PMYC Swag! Garhauer (Mark Felgenhauer) is sponsoring the race and donating some high priced items to the winners. This is going to be a big event. Please come out with or without your boat! I do prefer with… UPDATE!!! Member Bill Austin is hiking across Spain and made another successful burgee trade. This time with Club Nautic El Masnou. He has made new friends for us in Northern and Southern Spain on this trip. If you are ever there, be sure to stop in and look for our flag! If you see Bill around the clubhouse, be sure to ask him about his adventures! Bill will be the Race Committee Boat for the 2017 Chuck Stein/Heather Perkoff Regatta. COVAC (Club Owned Vessels Activities Committee) had the Lido 14 out on Sunday, August 20th. We took members out, showed them how to sail and even were good Samaritans helping a paddle boarder in need. Great time had by all! We are looking forward to more members contacting us to go out to sail or get authorized to operate. Contact me for more info on how to get on the Lido. We will be doing some upgrades like rigging, paint & decals in between sailing her over the next two months. Will keep you posted! Your Fleet Captain, Tony Milazzo

Wendy Steinthal - Port Captain

How did we get to September? I guess it is true what they say, time flies when you are having fun. The cruises, the parties, the sun and the amazing sunsets seen from the deck of the club has made this an amazing summer!

It’s great to see people coming up in their dinghy’s and other watercraft. Take advantage of the dock and avoid the traffic. If you want to or need to leave your boat overnight, contact me to make sure that no one has reserved the spot. We want to make sure the spots reserved in advanced are kept free. Please note, overnight stays count towards your 3 day reciprocal with the club – but you have them, so take advantage!

September is the time to get ready for the last cruise of the season and show off your cooking skills. Tony has been working hard on some great events for the Hors d'oeuvres Cruise, so remember to sign up, you won’t want to miss out on all the fun!

The response has been great in signing up for OD, thank you to all that have signed up and put on some pretty fab OD festivities. Attached is the latest list, so please take a moment to reconfirm the date you signed up for. There is still time to sign up for October. Please e-mail me at: [email protected] to sign up or sign up at the club, the list is by the signup for FND. While you are at it, how do you feel about feeding 30-40 of your closest club friends for either a FND or a Monday Night Football?

See you around the club!

Your Port Captain,

Wendy
