LocationClifton is located in south central Bosque County at the north end of the beautiful Texas hill country. Clifton is 36 miles from Waco, 135 miles from Austin, 90 miles from Dallas/Ft. Worth and 215 miles from Houston.

CultureClifton is one of 24 Texas Cultural Art Districts and home to more than 20 nationally and regionally acclaimed artists. The Chamber has numerous paintings from local artists on display in their building. Clifton is also home to the Bosque Arts Center which hosts an Annual Art Classic show and sale that receives more than 750 applicants each year. Historic downtown has several art galleries, a community theater, a community chorale, an artisan group, a dance studio and the CLIFTEX, the oldest continuously operating movie theater in Texas.

Cl imateSummers in Clifton are hot, and the winters are usually mild. An average year has 37 days of below freezing temperatures, around 32 inches of rainfall, and 230 days of sunshine. But as everyone who lives in Texas knows, the weather is very unpredictable so come prepared for anything.

What has happened once each year for 50 years in the small town of Clifton, TX ? Each year since 1931, the Central Texas Youth Fair has given the youth of Bosque and surrounding counties opportunities to exhibit their livestock and home economics projects. This year June 2 - 6th, 2020, a hardworking group of volunteers will again provide the necessary backdrop for all the 4-H and FFA youth who aim for a coveted ribbon, to exhibit their projects at the Clifton fairgrounds.

The entry categories are quite broad and, in addition to a variety of animal entries, a partial list includes arts and crafts projects, baked goods, garden vegetables, and photography. These students work diligently all year to bring their completed projects to the Fair to be seen and admired by the community. The talents of the ribbon-winning contestants are rewarded at a Sale on Saturday, June 6th, providing business owners and individuals the opportunity to bid on their projects and also, to purchase any others of interest.

You are encouraged to visit the Fairgrounds, view the many entries (animals and others), then make a difference by showing your support with a purchase.$

The Clifton Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the 69th Annual Rodeo and Carnival on June 4, 5 and 6th. The excitement begins Thursday with the opening of the Carnival. The Rodeo events kickoff at 6 pm Friday with the candy-tossing, small town parade on Ave D in downtown Clifton. For more information about the parade, call 254.675.3720. Immediately following the parade, head to the FairgroundsArena just off Hwy 219 and enjoy the Rodeo at 8 pm (Friday & Saturday), produced by Billy Hamilton for the third consecutive year. Admissions: $10 for Adults, $5 for Children 12 and under. The ever-popular, fun-to-watch, 4-H/FFA Calf Scramble is Friday night; the Mutton Bustin’ crowd pleaser is held each night.

The Bosque Museum features exhibits on the history, archaeology, and natural history of Bosque County.

A Full Year of Events at the Bosque Museum!

The Bosque Museum (301 S Ave Q) has an exciting calendar of events for 2020. On February 7, the museum will host a traveling exhibit featuring the classic Western Art of Harold D. Bugbee. A total of 17 pieces will be displayed that were produced from 1929 to 1962. The Bugbee paintings have been generously loaned to the Bosque Museum by the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas, where Bugbee once served as the curator of art. Members of the museum are invited to a members-only preview of the exhibit between 5:00 and 7:00 PM on Friday, February 6. It will open to the general public at 10:00 AM on February 7. The paintings will be displayed in the traveling exhibits gallery of the museum until March 31.

On February 22 at 2:00 PM Michael Grauer, the McCasland Chair of Cowboy Culture and Western Art at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, will

give a presentation and book signing. He will be signing copies of his new book Making a Hand: The Art of H.D. Bugbee. A former curator at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Mr. Grauer is the foremost expert on Bugbee.

The Museum will host a lecture at 2:00 PM on March 8 featuring antique firearms expert David Jackson. This presentation is part of FSSB’s Celebrate Texas Week. Jackson is a legal scholar, appraiser, and owner of J ackson Armory in Snider Plaza, Dallas, Texas.

In April the museum will open an exhibit on the artwork of Forrest Kirkland. During the 1930s and 1940s, Kirkland traveled throughout Texas and painstakingly replicated prehistoric rock art. Kirkland’s reproductions are, in some cases, the sole surviving images of ancient art that has since been destroyed. The collection will be on loan to the museum courtesy of the Texas Archaeological Research Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin.

May will see the museum’s annual Wildflower Art Show featuring works from Bosque County artists. Pieces will be displayed in the museum and will be judged by a professional artist. Be sure to check our website for an updated schedule of events on the art show.

In July, the museum will host our Stones and Bones Summer Camp for kids aged 6-10. The camp will be a STEM-based educational opportunity featuring geology, paleontology, archaeology, botany, and wildlife biology. The camp will run from July 20 – 24 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Aftercare options will be available. This will be a unique educational opportunity found nowhere else in Bosque County.

The Bosque Museum participates in a Free First Saturday program, in which museum admission is waived for the first Saturday of each month. A Marcia Ball concert kicks things off at 7 p.m. on March 14. The jazz pianist known for her rollicking, bluesy style has been compared to Memphis Slim and Fats Domino for her Texas/Louisiana-infused keyboards.

March will also feature the chance to bid on original artwork by nationally acclaimed artists in the BAC’s second annual Online Fine Art Auction. Bruce Greene, Martin Grelle, Tony Eubanks, Ezra Tucker, Xiang Zhang, Dustin Payne, and Donna Howell-Sickles are just a few of the artists whose work will hang at the Arts

Center March 20-29. The online auction will take place March 20-25. A reception with artists is scheduled for March 21 from 5-7 p.m.

Another terrific auction follows the fine art one. The e-BAC holds chances at fabulous trips, events, art, and jewelry. A San Diego

Zoo & Safari Adventure is one of the exciting trips up for bid. The e-BAC will run March 30-April 2.

On the heels of the e-BAC is The Big Event, one night of music and fun on April 4. This Saturday night “FUNdraiser”—Evening on Safari—features dinner, a silent auction, drawings, and live music by Brian Barrett & Serengeti. Texas Rangers tickets, a Super Bowl party with stadium seating and a 30-foot screen, and a bourbon and cigar party are just a few of the items available. The festivities begin at 5:45.

Throughout the quarter, the Arts Center will offer other chances for guests to experience original art and take part in fun game nights. The Atrium Gallery will host solo exhibits by local artists and artisans (Sally Griffiths, Karen Wise, and Ann Patton), while the Art Council hosts the area high school art show. Bingo nights on February 4 and March 10 offer big jackpots, while a BAC Casino Night on April 25 will feature complimentary drinks and appetizers while attendees play for prizes at Vegas-style games such as blackjack, craps, and slots.

SAVE THE DATE! Bosque Tour de Norway 2020The Clifton Chamber of Commerce welcomes visitors to the 9th annual Bosque Tour de Norway bicycle rally on May 16, 2020. Growing consistently since its introduction in 2012, the rally continues to gain popularity among cyclists for its burning climbs, gorgeous panoramic views, the generous hospitality of local volunteers, and the unique cultural experiences of Clifton.

Each year on the third Saturday of May, bicyclists from across Texas and beyond unite in Clifton for Bosque Tour de Norway, which is the second leg of the European Tour of Texas Challenge. The Challenge is a multi-rally event which also includes Italy’s Tour d’Italia, Muenster’s Germanfest, and Paris’ Tour de Paris.

Offering four distance options along paved roadways in the countryside surrounding Clifton, Bosque Tour de Norway includes routes of 20, 40, 60, and 80 miles for riders of all ages and experience levels. At rest stations positioned at 10-mile intervals along the routes, teams of local volunteers are on hand to answer questions and serve riders. Here cyclists may stop for food, beverages, shady rest, and bathroom breaks. Support and Gear vehicles are also available to participants along the courses throughout the event.


Riders for all courses begin at Clifton High school, travel along Avenue Q to FM 219, then toward the Norse Historic District, established in 1854 by Norwegian immigrants and is an historic highlight for participants. Cyclists wind through the Norse community and past many historical sites, with St. Olaf’s Kirke (Rock Church) a popular stop along the tour. For riders opting the longer courses, their beautiful trek continues to Meridian via Cranfills Gap. In Meridian, cyclists on the 60-mile journey will travel Hwy 22 from Meridian across the northern span of the tour, returning to Clifton across the prairie that attracted 19th-century German immigrants to the fertile farmland of the Womack community. Those cyclists participating in the 40-mile and 80-mile tours depart Meridian on Hwy 6, southbound towards Clifton. Tour riders that have chosen the 80-mile circuit, turn west on FM 2136 returning to Cranfills Gap, then back to Clifton via FM 219 for the finish line.
