From the Acting Principal, Joanna Stanford

Dear Parents/Guardians and Friends, Last Friday we hosted the official launch of our Sensory Garden. We felt privileged to come together with all those involved in this fantastic project, including representatives from the Public Health Network, Melbourne University, Victoria Police, Brimbank Council, and a number of Government Departments. For those members of our school community who were able to attend, we thank you for your time and support. For those who were unable to attend, you can find videos of the speeches on our Facebook page. Thanks to Jade and Brendon for bravely speaking on behalf of our students about the benefits of the garden and the reasons they enjoy the space so much.

The launch coincided with our whole school Wellbeing Day where we took time out to Relax, Renew and Re-energise for the learning that is still to come in the final weeks of Term 4. Students had experiences learning yoga, meditation, karate, creating time capsules and other artwork. The feedback from the students and learning advisors was overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to holding similar days in 2018.

Last week, we were given a last minute opportunity too good to pass up. We sent 25 of our Year 5/6 students on an overnight camp on the lawns of Government House. As always, the students were excellent representatives of our school community and all agreed it was an experience of a lifetime. We look forward to creating opportunities such as these for more DPS students in the future.

On Thursday, 14th December, our students will step up into their new year levels to experience their inquiry for 2018. After this session, all children will write a letter to their 2018 Learning Advisor to share something about themselves that they would like them to know before the new year. On Thursday, 21st December, students will step up into their 2018 home-groups and spend some time getting to know their Learning Advisor and fellow classmates.

Attached to this newsletter are the raffle tickets for the Celebration Hampers, so don’t miss out on entering! Raffle Tickets are $1.00 each and will need to be returned to the office by Wednesday 13th December 2017, to go in draw to win one of our great hampers.

We would like to wish Jane Moyes (Nicholls) and Bianca Hudson all the best as they commence family leave to await the arrival of their babies.

Symeonidis Being an excellent listener

Chatter, chatter, chatter, the sound of my teeth going up and down was the only thing you could hear because on Friday 20th August it was like an ice block on the oval. The first thing was splitting into age groups.

The 10 year olds were doing Discus first. I was in the 10 year old age group even though I am not 10 but I will be soon. As soon as you can imagine! I twisted my body, swung my arm and let go of the discus. Wow! What a great shot. After everybody had their go I had to have another go with some other girl. Another great shot from Leia. It was a great shot but not big enough for a ribbon.

HAVE YOU SEEN OUR LIBRARY BOOKS?

At Derrimut Primary, we try to ensure that we have a range of quality books for all students to borrow from the Resource Centre and Classroom Libraries. We love that students borrow, but we are aware that many books are not being returned. We cannot

sustain such a huge loss of books. It is vital that all books are returned by next week.

Please, please, search under beds, behind couches and in bookshelves for any DPS books. We need everyone in our school community to join the hunt! Please return any books to the Resource Centre, no questions will be asked.

Thank you for your cooperation, happy book hunting!

finals, finishing 9th overall. They showed outstanding teamwork and spirit throughout the day. The boys

played on Wednesday 29th November and finished 1st in their pool, qualifying for the Quarter Finals against St Paul Bentleigh where they won 28 to 16. In the Semi Finals against The Grange, the boys fought gallantly

An absolutely fantastic effort by all students involved and we look forward to next year.
