LEVITICAL OFFERINGS
Five offerings present a marvellous picture of the Person and work of
our blessed Lord Jesus Christ.
FIVE OFFERINGS. LEVITICUS 1-7.
Voluntary Offering

OFFERING Leviticus 1; 6: 8-13; 7 and 8;
Deut. 33: 8-10; Psalm 40; Ephesians 5:1, 2.
WHY BEGIN WITH BURNT OFFERINGS?
God gives us that which means most to Him first.
HIGHEST ASPECT OF THE WORK OF CHRIST
Old Testament requirement: Sweet smelling savour to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:2
“...as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.”
Burnt Offering Pictures the
“If any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.”
A VOLUNTARY OFFERING
Bullock or Young Ox (1:3-9): A spotless male.
Flock (1:10-13): Spotless male sheep or goat.
Birds (1:14-17): Turtledoves or pigeons.
EACH ACCORDING TO THEIR ABILITY
IDENTIFICATION
Leviticus 1:4 And he shall put his hand upon
the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.
SKIN IS PROVIDED TO THE PRIEST
Leviticus 1:6-9; 15-16 Washing of water: Christ did all under the
power of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. Ps 119:11.
Burn all on the altar: The complete work of Christ on the cross.
Skin given to the Priest. Ch 7:8. Our acceptance in the covering.
Fowl as an offering: The stooping, the voluntary giving up.
OUR CONDUCT DURING THE OFFERING
Lev 6:8-13 Clothed in white:
Righteousness not our own. Ashes: Speak of the finished
work. Ps 40: the Psalm of Burnt
Offering. Deuteronomy 33: Delight
ourselves in the occupation with Christ.
EPHESIANS 5:1-2
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.
WHAT ABOUT YOUR BURNT OFFERING? Romans 12:1. I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.
Hebrews 13:15. By him therefore let us offer
the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of [our] lips giving thanks to his name.
