A large scale, audio-visual show set to wow local pupils with music, physics, engineering and art. Delivered by internationally accomplished organists and tutors Catherine Ennis and Daniel Moult, this workshop will delight pupils and bring to life the grand organ.

Evening Recital

The Guildhall organ’s own local recitalist Stewart Smith is joined by international recitalist, tutor and recording artist Catherine Ennis to create what promises to be an evening of some of the greatest music ever written for the organ.

We are proud to announce the exciting programme for the upcoming Guildhall Organ Festival to be held from 19th October – 21st October.
The first of its kind in the city, the festival promises to showcase the magnificent Guildhall organ, originally installed in 1891 and rebuilt in 1914 by William Hill and Sons.
The program includes school workshops, lunch time performances, evening concerts, master classes for experienced organists to polish their skills, as well as an exciting ‘Battle of the Organs’ evening event culminating in the grand finale gala concert with performances by internationally renowned artists.

Mozart once called the organ the, ‘King of instruments’. Pupils will have the chance to learn the history of the organ through hands on tutorials and workshops delivered by experts Catherine Ennis and Daniel Moult. Suitable for Key Stage 3/4 pupils. 15 pupils per session.

Competition
Participating schools will be given the opportunity to take part in an exciting competition with Viscount Organs. The winning school will receive one free organ, plus 50% of the first year’s tuition fees.

We have the unique opportunity to hear not one but two organs reverberate throughout the Guildhall as international artists Catherine Ennis and Daniel Moult engage in a fierce battle of music refereed by top recorder player Sir Roger Gifford.

Experienced organists have the opportunity to polish their skills alongside experts Catherine Ennis and Daniel Moult. The workshop will cover technique, hymn-playing and music for Advent and Christmas.

Concert & Presentation of Certificates

Master class participants will perform a series of pieces of music followed by presentation of certificates by Dr Gerard Gillen, Professor Emeritus in Music at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

Master class participants & invited dignitaries will be welcomed by the Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District Council, Councillor Maolíosa McHugh.
Gala Evening Concert
Main Hall Guildhall ⋅ 7.30pm - 9pm (Doors Open 7pm)
The festival grand finale is set to wow the audience as the Guildhall organ is show-cased with an evening of classical and traditional Irish music.
Catherine Ennis will be joined by world renowned composers and artists Neil Martin and Paddy Glackin.
The Guildhall is set to come alive with the sounds of the great organ alongside the uileann pipes, cello, tin whistle and fiddle.
