What she doesn’t tell you is
that she successfully applied
for this cutting edge program
addressing 21st century
learning. I am very proud of
Tracey’s enthusiasm for em-
bracing this new educational
world and thoroughly enjoyed
watching her in action during
our Sydney trip last week.
So, yes, we are a little rural
school but we are at the fore
front of this new world. Why?
Tracey and I are committed
educators, we care deeply
about ‘our’/your children and
we understand that to contin-
ue to provide these children
with the best education we
need to be continually
stretching ourselves and be
in the midst of current, best
practice. We are helping
shape the new DEC and alt-
hough it may be tiring, it is
exhilarating. Our children
deserve our effort.
Keep smiling!
Week 3 already and our
whirlwind year continues.
The rate of change , expecta-
tions for leaders, teachers
and learners and the con-
stant juggle of meeting the
conflicting demands of being
a Teaching Principal and a
leader within the DEC system
sure keeps life busy. Lead-
ing, teaching and learning in
our 21st century has com-
pletely transformed during
my time at Nowendoc Public.
We may be a quiet little
school and on the surface
that is what people see and
that is the world we strive so
hard to capture for the chil-
dren.
We do not operate alone
anymore though and nor
should we. The world we live
in is based on collaboration,
continual striving for excel-
lence and communication.
That is why we now operate
as the Wild Rivers Alliance
with Niangala, Yarrowitch
and Woolbrook. Each school
maintains its uniqueness but
the teachers within each
school collaborate in online
environments after school,
focus on consistent teacher
judgment and moderation of
children’s work and engage
in a professional learning
community.
This week I will travel to Syd-
ney to attend my Principal
Credential graduation cere-
mony. This is a new leader-
ship qualification within NSW
and I am honored to have
been one of the first chosen
to pursue this leadership
opportunity.
As Tracey informs you in
‘Mrs Worth’s Week’ we are
both now engaged in another
new initiative of the DEC.

To support this learning we
will be sending home a digi-
tal camera. On Monday stu-
dents wrote about their fa-
vourite landscape in their
paddocks. We would like the
support of parents to help
their child/ren have access
to their chosen landscape to
take photos of it. Please
return the camera the next
day so that each family has
this opportunity.
Wow, this year has disap-
peared quickly. Kathy and I
were recently chosen by the
DEC Learning Systems di-
rectorate to write a learning
resource called Through the
Gate. It is based on collabo-
rative learning activities in
the classroom and online
learning tools. We travelled
to Sydney last week, spend-
ing two days of intensive
learning; becoming familiar
with the template and to
collaborate with our team of
four specialists; Creative
Arts, Literacy, and Quality
Teaching & Learning Sys-
tems. We are now writing the
resource back at school. As
it is written I will be teaching
the resource on Tuesdays
and Wednesdays. Today is
our third day of working on
activities from the resource
and so far it has had a very
positive result from the stu-
dents. We look forward to
presenting the completed
