Our university on the previous school year has faced myriad of issues. One of those issues include the expensive amount collected for college funds. Many parents claimed that the said fees were too big for a public university like NORSU. Former Student Government of Dumaguete City-I (SGDC-I) President Norelyn Talorete immediately appealed to the president’s office, even to other powerful persons in order to make a move about it and after series of meetings and talks, the administration has finally approved to cut down the funds and do some refunds for the excess payments. Students were very happy. Some were thankful for they can at least return the refunded money to their beloved parents. Others jumped for joy for they can perhaps keep the money for good.

But this good news has sacrificed a lot in terms of the colleges’ projects and activities. Many Norsunians complained why there were few programs and events especially during founders week, well, that simply answers it!

Another problem emerged on the later part of the second semester wherein one of the college governors who was running for SGDC-I president was alleged to have personally used the money of their own college. Many were shocked! Especially when the university president announced it during the awarding of honor students. However, what shocked the students most was when the latter won the election. Other students even thought there was sabotage during the election. But no! There was none! The election was peaceful. The results were duly based on the electors’ number of votes.

Now tell us! Does he really deserve the position? Yes he does! That’s what you answered based on your votes right? We just hope you had voted what you think was right, because if not, then you already know what the possible consequences are.

The third and the biggest problem the university specifically the administration has faced was when the students initiated a rally last March 14. First two aforementioned problems were some of the reasons for the unfriendly act. Other reasons include the alleged corrupt individuals and puppets of the administration and the removal of some trusted NORSU staff.

The said rally was led by some of the powerful student body officers which made it more influential to everyone’s eyes. We say it was partly right and partly wrong. Partly right for it is the students right to express their sentiments towards the administration’s disruptive leadership. And partly wrong because it has dented the image of our university. Since it was aired by the media, many were informed what NORSU really is and what kind of leaders

“The Legal Wife”: A Sad Reality!

Beat the summer heat

June 2-8, 2014

WHAT IF ... to page 4

To tell you honestly, I was never fond of watching evening TV series, may it be from the Kapamilya or the Kapuso network, especially those unrealistic, fictional characters and nevertheless less appealing situations that they are dealing with. Maybe because they just can’t get into my nerves, thus staying away from my interests as a viewer. Yes, entertaining minions is their business, but I still can’t find the reason to be fascinated to the stuff.

Not until one of those programs had successfully caught my inner thoughts, not because it’s busting me, but because it’s more realistic, and I’m sure many Filipinos can relate with it. No, I’m not referring to “Ikaw Lamang”—it’s quite old and tragic, yet I find it nice. Anyway, I’m pertaining to “The Legal Wife” from the Kapamilya network (not to be biased to the other one). At first, I found it simple, like any other TV programs that consume your precious time, yet on the later part of the show, I felt stirred, indeed moved by the dialogues and was as well affected by the real life situations that the characters were trying to portray, which they successfully did. From then on, I can’t make my day without sitting in

front of our 21 inch LCD Panasonic TV set, watching the series. Yes, the characters are appealing, good enough to depict

the role as a matter of fact, but what awakened me the most were the situations. They are just so pure and genuine like the writers are experiencing the whole ‘affair thing’, the dialogues are so real that it seemed unimaginable you just can’t stop hooking up with it. Also by watching it, you might as well understand the story behind every hidden lies, the courage to be a seductive mistress, the strength to be an unfaithful husband, and the innocence of a wife that hides the doubt because of her unbiased love. So whom do we have to put all the blame on? To the lonely mistress? To the cheating husband? Or to the innocent wife? Hard to tell isn’t it?

But we have to face it! We may understand their individual stories, but we can never hide the fact that this is happening, that illegal romantic affairs are just around the corner—it might even be too late, but probably, someone you know might either be the unfaithful or the unfortunate. Hence, The Legal Wife is just a representation of one of the most common social adversary of this country. It is just a representation of the reality that we are consumed by lies, governed by mistrust, and ruled by unfaithfulness and temptations. I’m even waiting for the statistics of the broken family rate of the country if this can’t be stopped in the worst case scenario.

This is a very sad truth, and we can do nothing but to accept the consequences of the wrong move. But we could at least do something to decrease the probable rate of this concern through knowing ourselves better, approaching people better, thus results for you to choose the right person better than anybody else, and not just choose because you were provoked to do so. Let us do our part and make the correct move towards other people and avoid the wrath of social adversaries.

I am very open to comments or suggestions. Just email me at [email protected] and follow me on twitter @kleinejun.

Summer is one of the two seasons our country normally experiences these days. And we cannot deny the fact that most of us Filipinos love to feel summer than the rainy days. A proof for that is the usual status of your facebook friends that floods your newsfeed every time you open your account. Or perhaps the text of your peers inviting you to have a glimpse of pleasure in any beaches of your choice.

Well, there is nothing wrong if you seek for fun during this summer seasons. Nevertheless, you have to consider the veracity that the climate we have right now has changed badly. It is getting worse compared to previous years. Have you observed it? Some people always like the start of summer but eventually feel uncomfortable with the very hot surrounding temperature. As a matter of fact, every time I

receive a quote text messages from my friends, the hash tag “#ka-init” will always be placed in the end.

However, no matter how you dislike this situation, you need to accept it or perchance try these various tips that could help you escape and beat the summer heat.

Drink Plenty of Water. Water composed almost three-fourths part of our body and a vital factor necessary for everyone’s survival. In spite of its priceless nature, it still brought a lot of useful things not only to human but also to all creatures living in this planet. For instance is the problem on extreme heat usually encounter by everybody during summer. By taking eight to ten glasses every day, the high body temperature is lowered triggering the person to calm down from an irritated state. Aside from that, many will become vulnerable to heat cramps, exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke during this season because of the dryness and hotness of the environment. So for adults and children, they must be very careful for they are more prone to these ailments. Bringing a bottle of water wherever you go is also a good practice to maintain the levels of water in your body.

Stay in Cool Places. In this season, spending time in cool places can help relief your warmth feeling. You can hang out to places like malls, coffee shop or anywhere that you think can make you comfortable enough. It is much better also, to use air conditioner and fan in your home so that you will have all the privacy to do whatever stuffs you wanted. On the other hand, make sure to turn off the appliances that were not used since they create their own heat when

“I am a girl born with an incomplete family and I don’t belong in any place.”

I have been living in a place of pure isolation and part of me feels the dejection when I remembered what my mother had said. My father left us

when I was still in her womb. He even insisted to have an abortion but my mother never agreed to do such hideous act. Could you just imagine killing your own child? Well, he was not satisfied, so he went away with another woman. Such incident greatly marks the greatest thought of my head—a deep rage for my useless and irresponsible father. I thought I would never think of dreaming a complete set of parents. I thought I would never want to feel their care, love and warmth. I thought I would never think of experiencing those things. But human as I am, longing for such feeling haunts me always.

My mother is very caring. But I always know that deep inside, she remembers the man who ruined and abandoned everything because of me—because of that unfortunate mistake. And that makes me guilty so I keep on blaming myself. Since then, I never trusted anyone and started to isolate myself, even from my family. It seemed like I have my own world, away from theirs. I never realized then that the

gap between me and my mother was increasing, especially when she married another man without my consent or blessing as we call it. Yet who am I to stop them?

Nevertheless, my trust for her was completely ruined, and I started to hate her. I feel that they as well hate me. That I am a mere living reminder of their greatest mistake and shame. I even stayed away from friends. Well, I never wanted to have one. Deep in my thoughts, I know that no one is capable of bearing my trust. Everyone is only pretending. No one is true.

Years passed by, I lived the way I lived. One day, I realized how fool I was. I was afraid to get hurt so I ended up building my own imaginary world that could never come true. I realized how lost and left behind I was. I lost much of my time dreaming of a perfect world where in fact, nothing is perfect. The world is so harsh! And playing along with the reality is the best defense in life. I was too late to see such simple fact. My mistake was too lethal that I

completely got confused and lost track of myself. I tried to ask help, but who should I ask if I have no one? No one will ever come and save me from this typhoon of sadness and regret. I never trusted anyone and no one trusts me. I lost my precious time and there is nothing that I can do about it. Because lost time is irreversible and I can’t have it back. The only chance I have now is to continue my life and try to face and fight reality. I am not afraid of getting hurt anymore. It is normal. I am ready to face reality again.

The past doesn’t determine who we are. It is what we choose to be that matters. I made a great mistake in that aspect. Right now, I’ll do my best to cover up those precious time that I wasted. I hope no one will encounter and live the same way as I do. It is lonesome. I was once there and I woke up from that slumber. I don’t want to live in that world again.

Silent Dreamer is a girl that has full of imaginary dreams about a perfect ideal world.

June 2-8, 2014

Most of us run to our friends’ shoulders whenever we are in grave depression. Well, simply because they are our friends and we feel comfortable when we are with them. However, you need to be careful ‘coz what you thought might just shock you at the end of everything. Ok. This secret is supposed to be hidden inside the closets of those innocents and feeling innocents. So if you feel it’s a cliché, just keep it that way.

Your friends could be your top antagonists just so you know it. You always go into bumping with your so called best friends especially when you feel emotionally weak and blue because you believe they understand you the most. And of course, as best friends, they always want you to feel that their presence soothes your agitated persona, your anguished soul—without knowing that sometimes it turns out the other way around.

Some friends of yours might just set a fire from a piece of wood and before you know it, the flame has already consumed you. But still, you continue to follow their steps which leads you to fall on the pits of misunderstanding and floor of desolation.

When you are indecisive and you don’t have a firm mind to do the right thing, you normally resort to your friends’ words of advice. Then what will happen to you at the end of everything? Perhaps, the advices they gave would lead you to despair.

But this will not happen all the time anyway, seldom I guess, so there is a little for you to worry about. Just remember that worrying means some gap in understanding among your group of friends.

Another thing, be careful with having friendly relationships, because that friend of yours might have thought of the things that you never imagined. You might think that you belong with the group. Yes you do! That is if you are around, hanging out with them. But if you’re out there somewhere and out of their reach and vision, we don’t know what’s with their playful minds. Hello, they could also have their own crazy thoughts about you. And please, it’s okay to tell you’re secrets to your friends, but make sure that what you’ve shared will never embarrass you. May your friend be

a quiet type or a really “talker”, just be careful because before you know it, tada, you’re falling down in the middle of isolation with no one to put your trust into.

So choose who you deal with. This is not a must, not unless you are fond of pain. And many of us are. For an instance, you might cry on your ‘buddies’ shoulders, but do you know what he or she is thinking? You might try to ask some advice from them yet you don’t know that maybe they were the stimulants that triggers to your outbursts. Remember my dear, your friends, or should I say, the best of your friends, know most of your hidden secrets, and they can clean your closet for the public if they want to, and these might mean bad and ugly things.

These were what John Pierce Alintana, a second year Geology student had observed from his board mates. He exclaimed that when the girls hang around together, there will never be times of boredom. He meant shouts and laughter are taking over the room, gossiping about boys, their crushes (mostly those whom

they cannot have, like celebrities), and chattering about someone whom they do not like most or even their fellow board mates with smelly feet or the ‘burara’ one.

He also shared that when one of the girls shall went to class or to the CR, she then will be the new hot topic for those who remain gossiping. And when she returns, tada! the topic will be back to normal. Funny isn’t it? So never leave your group when you’re having this chinwag, or else, expect to bite your own tongue.

See? Even a friend or a best friend has his or her own foul smell that time and logic alone are needed for it to disperse. So, be careful my friend! Google might even find it hard to explain or define what a friend means. Anyways, this is not for you to go away nor take some distance nor be so negative to your friends, because they are already part of you whether you like it or not. Just control your relationship and remain balance to yourself. And never put all your trust to anyone, not even to your closest friends.

CHED disapproves opening of classes in August for NORSUThe Commission on Higher Education (CHED)

disapproved Negros Oriental State University’s proposal of moving the start of the school year 2014-2015 to August instead of June, according to Information Publicity Office Director Marx Iturralde.

“CHED has not approved the preparations of NORSU. Not only that, but also they did not approve on the general idea yet which is the moving of the start of classes from June to August. CHED has put this issue under further study,” the IPO director said.

Iturralde explained one of the reasons why CHED disapproved the proposal and put it under further study is because DepEd is not changing its schedule of classes for the high school level. “So once you graduate 4th year, you have to wait for how many months for you to enter college,” he said.

Iturralde added the Professional Regulation

Commission (PRC) is also not changing its schedule for professional examinations.

“The PRC is also not changing its schedule for exams so if ever ma-push through jud ang start of classes sa August, wala pa ka-graduate ga-exam na. It means that our graduates will have to wait for almost one more year to be able to take the exam,” he articulated.

Meanwhile, Iturralde disclosed despite of the proposal’s goal which is to be in lined with other ASEAN Nations, he said, CHED Head Patricia B. Licuanan and the University President Don Vicente Real still believes that NORSU will still be a good university to study in.

For BS Pharma student, Arfil Alama, “Okay ra ang June kaysa August kay kung August, magpaspasanay jud kay daghan mang events.”

New-elect College of Criminal Justice Education

(CCJE) Governor Janny Abrinica Alemania said, “Para nako, okay raman nga dili usa i-change to August ang opening for this school year kay lisod na pag-adjust sa bag-ong programa.”

John Reynald Narciso, BS Civil Engineering said, “I would be happy if the start of classes will be on August in order for us to have lengthy of time to rest from school works. However, the schedule for the starting of classes doesn’t really matter to me as long as NORSU would still offer an affordable and world-class education most poor but deserving students like Norsunians ask for.”

In the Philippines only University of the Philippines-Dilliman, Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle and University of Sto. Tomas will adapt the new schedule for starting of classes. — Kimberly Rose E. Lumaya /SR and Niña Marie T. Pino /FW

We wrote this editorial article not to favor the admin nor the students. We hear both sides. We balance things. Thus, we believe we are in one family. Yes! We all have the freedom of expression yet that does not give us the reason to create a war between ourselves. Everything can always be solved

through a peaceful talk or assembly. Students sometime feel they have

been neglected by the administration especially by the president because they think he has not allotted time for them. Or perhaps, they were wrong, the president has tried his best to serve yet it was covered up with the wrong moves he has made.
