Bridge Let us become more aware of Your Presence

Let us experience the glory of Your goodness (Lord)

The Gradual (all remain seated and read responsively) Psalm 19:7-14 Cæli enarrant

7 The law of the Lord is perfect and revives the soul; *

the testimony of the Lord is sure and gives wisdom to the innocent.

8 The statutes of the Lord are just and rejoice the heart; *

the commandment of the Lord is clear and gives light to the eyes.

9 The fear of the Lord is clean and endures for ever; *

the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, more than much fine gold, *

sweeter far than honey, than honey in the comb.

11 By them also is your servant enlightened, * and in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can tell how often he offends? * cleanse me from my secret faults.

13 Above all, keep your servant from presumptuous sins; let them not get dominion over me; *

then shall I be whole and sound, and innocent of a great offense.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, *

O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever: world without end. Amen. Second Reading James 4:7-12 (Pew Bible p. 982) Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

Sermon (all be seated)

Nicene Creed (all stand and recite in unison)

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People (all kneel)

The Deacon says:

Please offer your prayers and thanksgivings this morning, either out loud or silently, and after the words “Lord, in your mercy” respond with “Hear our prayer”. Let us pray.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer: Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. Confession

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. O mount of grace to Thee we cling From the law hath set us free

Once and for all on Calv'ry's hill Love and justice shall agree

Praise the Lord the price is paid The curse defeated by the Lamb

We who once were slaves by birth Sons and daughters now we stand

O well of joy is mine to drink

For my Lord has conquered death Victorious forevermore

The ancient foe is laid to rest Hallelujah Christ is King

Alive and reigning on the throne Our tongues employed with hymns of praise

Glory be to God alone Presentation Hymn (all stand) Old One Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Celebrant: All things come from you, O Lord. People: And of your own have we given you. Sursum Corda

Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who on the first day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name.

Sanctus (in unison)

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel)

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it,* and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer BCP p. 336

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Celebrant: Alleluia. Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed once for all upon

the cross. People: Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Prayer of Humble Access (in unison)

We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. Communion

All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail. Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion.

Reckless Love Caleb Culver, Cory Asbury, and Ran Jackson; CCLI: 7089641

Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me You have been so, so good to me

Before I took a breath, You breathed Your life in me You have been so, so kind to me

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me You have been so, so good to me

When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me You have been so, so kind to me

There's no shadow You won't light up

Mountain You won't climb up Coming after me

There's no wall You won't kick down Lie You won't tear down

Coming after me

Post Communion Prayer (in unison)

Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious body and blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ: and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal Kingdom. And now Father, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Prayer for our Search Team (in unison)

Good and gracious God, thank you for blessing our church in every way imaginable. As we prepare for our future, we are confident of your goodness and care, and we humbly ask you to open our hearts and minds so that we may listen well for your guidance. Help us to discern Your will, and to be guided to select the person you already have in mind to be our new Rector. May we love each other and You more deeply as we make this journey together. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Adult Education Please join us in the Parish Hall as Deacon Matt Rucker continues his 11 week bible study on the Epistles of John. Not long after the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, communities of believers began to grow out of the fertile soil of the ancient Mediterranean. One of these communities was the recipient of several pastoral letters from John, now known as 1, 2, and 3 John. We will explore these important letters, which flesh out what it means to live life with a God who is Love. Single Combined Service at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 7 Please mark your calendars! Due to many of our parishioners, staff and clergy attending the Parish Retreat in Prescott the weekend of October 5-7, we will have a single combined service at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 7. We will have Godly Play during the service, but no Adult Education or Sunday School that day. Rector Search Committee Update Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to one of the listening sessions. The search committee was and is grateful to have heard the thoughts and hopes of this passionate community of people. If you were not able to attend and would like to share your thoughts with us directly, an email blast will be sent out in the near future with the questions discussed at the listening sessions and directions for how to send us your answers. Please send us your thoughts by October 15th. As always, we ask you to pray with us--that we as a church would sense God’s presence and the weighty peace that accompanies it. Children’s Choir Opportunity Hannah Kimball, our CCA Choir Alto Section Leader, will be conducting a Children’s Choir (Pre-K through 4th Grade) at CCA this fall on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-6:45 p.m., October 10-November 14 in the Choir Room (Room 7.) This will be a great opportunity for the children to learn about vocal technique and our rich tradition of sacred music. If your children are interested in participating, please contact the church office at 602.955.2040 or [email protected] by Monday, October 1. Little voices worshipping God is such a blessing! Blessing of the Animals Join us with your pets on the church lawn for a special service on Wednesday, October 3, 6:00 p.m. Traditionally around the Feast of St. Francis, we have a brief service to bless our animals. For everyone’s safety, pets must either be on a leash or in a carrier. This would be a great opportunity to invite friends and neighbors for an event enjoyed by all!
