The Nexus Dialogue Programme: Funding

Phase I as preparation for Phase II:

Phase I: 01.01.2016 – 31.12.2018 (5 Mio. € )

Phase II: from 2018 onwards (> 60 Mio. €)

Proposal of Nexus oriented project list (infrastructure) to be financed by

Phase II (EU funds of 20 Mio EUR, target of 60 Mio EUR by mobilizing

additional funds from further donors).

1. Knowledge Exchange: The Global Nexus Secretariat (GNS)

• The Global NEXUS Secretariat (GNS) is a support platform for the development of the Regional Nexus Dialogues.

• The GNS ensures coordination and coherence between the different Regional Dialogue’s components.

• Supports partner organizations in the implementation (e.g. annotation of proposals for quality control and coherence).

• Stimulates exchange and mutual learning across the regional dialogues.

• Organization of participation in conferences, workshops etc.

• Publications, brochures etc.

2. The Nexus Resource Platform www.water-energy-food.org

• New – extended concept: The NRP is the central global Nexus information hub.

• More dedicated articles are and will be published.

• Awareness rising re Nexus issues: continued increase in unique visitors.

3. Country Studies and Pilot Projects

• Carry out NEXUS country assessments to identify suitable NEXUS opportunities and institutional entry points

• Carry out NEXUS pilot study projects

• Carry out regional Nexus studies

• Compile a regional NEXUS Action plan

4. Human Capacity Development

• Target group : Ministerial Level, Training of Trainers (200 trainees).

• Development of a HCD Nexus Framework, adopted to the regional contexts

• Formulation of German and European Nexus case studies with the aim to

transfer lessons learnt to the Nexus Dialogues regions (regulatory perspective

as well as different levels of planning).

• Design of Nexus oriented investments into infrastructure, institutions and

individuals in the Mena Region.

• Support compilation of a list of (potential) NEXUS experts regions.

Regional Dialogue in LAC: Sensitization Phase

• The Water-Energy-Food Nexus in latin America and the Caribbean. Trade-offs, Strategic Priorities and Entry Points (GCP, IUCN, IWA, GIZ)

• Regional Analysis:

• Systematize the knowledge regarding the Nexus

• Analyses the Nexus context in the region

• Main Focus Areas:

• Irrigation: Andean and Mesoamerica Regions - Biofuels: Amazonia and Southern Cone Region -Hydropower: All region, with the exception of the Caribbean - Hydrocarbons: Andean and Amazonia, Southern Cone (with the exception of Paraguay and Uruguay) Regions and México -

• Mining: All region (specially Andean countries), with the exception of the Caribbean -Urban Nexus: LAC.

• Potential Pilots in Costa Rica, Peru and Guatemala
