The Haircut

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and asked his father when he could use his car.

His father said he’d make a deal with his son: ‘You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible, and get your haircut. Then we’ll talk about the car.’

The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer, and they agreed on it.

After about six weeks his father said, ‘Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve observed that you have been

studying your Bible, but I’m disappointed you haven’t got a haircut.

The boy said, ‘You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair,

and there’s even strong evidence that Jesus had long hair too.

AND THE DAD REPLIED WITH

“Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere?”

Newcastle Hi-Octana FUELARAMA - 27th & 28th April 2014 – Collene & Bill Kalb This is a wonderful event, and another great chance to enjoy educating the general public about our Vehicles, while at the same time having a lot of fun ourselves watching the 1st Event of Super Boat Races, held in Newcastle of a series of 8 Event Super Boat Power Races that will be held around Australia. The Boats entered in these races, come from all around Australia and New Zealand. With the Car and Ute Displays this gives the Motoring Enthusiasts a chance to also be part of what is a great event for our local area. We attended both days of Fuelarama and this is the result.

COOEE, YIPPEE, WHISTLE, doing the happy dance several times over, never been so Gob smacked before, Percy has out done himself this weekend. After being so horse yesterday talking to people and answering questions about him, to the same today (in-between rain showers) and Bill wiping Percy down off n on all day, to watching the Super Boats race etc etc, and listening to a great band that entertained the crowd. Time for the presentations, Dennis Berriman of course won best Bike of the Show, a Falcon won Best Australian, A Couda won Best American, Vauxhaul won Best Hot Rod, A Holden won best Modern, then the car of the day was announced, 1939 Australian Oldsmobile, Percy, Bill went up an was presented with, A lovely certificate, a Trophy, and a $500.00 cash prize.. We both are beside ourselves, absolutely thrilled what a weekend. All Proceeds went to Ronald McDonald House Newcastle.

What a great weekend. We also had a rare Oldsmobile alongside us along with 2 Convertibles and a Buick. Folks with cars you need to be there next year, the front row Harbour View of all the action on the water, and those boats have to be seen to be believed. Amazing, you also have the stalls, and the excitement of the Preparation, watching them be crane lifted into the water etc., and the Races. Remember also the different classes in the races, great days, both of them. :-)

Toronto Classic Boatfest - 20th April 2014

NRVC met at Toronto McDonalds at 7:30am, we all sat at a big long table and enjoyed Breakfast of Coffee, Hot Chocolates, McMuffins & Hash Browns. We had 15 cars. The Parlours had their 2 Monaro’s as well as a 1950’s original old timber boat built in Toronto with an old ‘seagull’ motor. We had 5 Holden’s in a row all looking good. Glenn, Don, Nat & I put up our portable club house located under the shade of the beautiful trees, thus having shade all day. We also set up a small table with our membership forms and the Spring Cruiz-in brochures on. We enjoyed morning tea with Hot x Buns, Tea, Coffee & Easter Eggs to follow. We then went for a walk down to the water where there was lots of water craft moored against the jetty. There were teams making boats to race later in the day. BBQ’s, Balloons, Snow Cones, Face painting lots of entertainment for the adults as well as the children. Some of the yachts’ were just beautiful, there was also a Pirate Ship that you were able to explore. The weather was beautiful and great company. Oh and Fabio was looking smashing in his Easter Hat. A great day for NRVC.

MVM Auto Truck Show & Shine & Lyskintyre Airfield - 3rd May 2014

NRVC met at Hexham McDonalds on a cold and windy morning for a great day ahead. The rain stayed away. We left there and made our way to MVM Auto’s Show & Shine Truck Show at Beresfield on arriving there we were asked to park our cars in front of the some trucks. MVM Auto’s made us very welcome and we were able to look at some beautiful trucks that were there on display some people enjoyed coffee and a BBQ provided by MVM. I’d just like to say a very big thank you to MVM Autos and all the team for allowing NRVC to be part of your day. On leaving there we made our way up to Lyskintyre Airfield near Lochinvar. It was very windy so we didn’t get to see any tiger moths in the sky but we saw plenty of them in the hangers. We were given a guided tour, amongst the planes and the museum. We enjoyed the BBQ that was cooked for us.

It was a great day for NRVC. Reporter: Natalie Towndrow

A Note from the Editor!

I hope everyone had a nice Easter and were able to relax and enjoy spending time with family & friends.

And the Easter Bunny found everyone with lots of surprises & goodies just for you.

I also hope that all Mum’s had a lovely MOTHER’S DAY, being spoilt by their families, having Breakfast in bed, going for coffee, going out for Lunch or Dinner, going on a picnic,

a drive, going to the movies, sleeping, reading, receiving gifts, flowers, chocolates, or doing anything that made the day special for you. Natalie

Mid Week Run - 17th April 2014 We all meet at Macca’s Edgeworth at 9:00am under the beautiful sunny skies of Newcastle. We left Macca’s at 9:10am and ventured on our way to Mulbring Park, once we reached our first port of call we unpacked all our cars and laid out our tables, chairs and filled the tables with beautiful hot cross buns and of cause tea and coffee and naturally a lot yakking. If you remember, in the Good Oil we said that we would have an Easter egg hunt for the more mature folks, well after I gave everyone a heart attack by saying they needed to get their running shoes on and that the eggs were in very high places and in very deep places I pulled out a sheet of paper with 10 Easter questions on it. As each question was read out who ever answered the question correctly were given an Easter egg, what clever members we have as everyone received an egg, so we all won. SEE PHOTOS OF ALL OUR LOVELY WELL DESIGNED EASTER HATS! Just before we left Bill knew of someone living in Mulbring who had a 1939 Oldsmobile he used to drive a circular saw to cut firewood. So we all went up to this man’s place to find that he was home. To the fellows that was very exciting. He told us all about how the Oldsmobile was used to drive the saw that was still there. It was lovely to listen to some of the stories he told us of days gone by and to top it off he said that his parents who are 91 and 85 still live in this home we visited. On our way again reaching Rathmines at 12 noon, we once again took everything out of the car and set up down by the water. After having lunch we drew out the winners of our Ladies and Gents Easter Hats. Once you see the photos of the great hats that were on show you will agree that a lot of love and work went into making them and they really made the day very Eastery. Daniel, Michael and Josh all received a few Easter eggs each for coming along and enjoying the day. Ladies winner of Easter hat: Collene Kalb. Gents winner of Easter hat: Rudy Galea A very big thank you to all who turned up to enjoy our Easter Mid Week run. THE VERY RARE AND UNIQUE CERTIFICATE WAS GIVEN TO TOM SHANNON FOR HIS LOYALITY TO THE MID WEEK RUN PRESENT ON THIS RUN: Daniel Paoletti, Thomas Shannon, June & Rudy Galea, Michael Paoletti, Fabio Paoletti, Collene & Bill Kalb, Marilyn & George Vella, Doreen & John Bailey, Barry Hughes and Josh Robinson.

Tilligerry Motorama - 18th May 2014 NRVC left Hexham McDonalds at 7:30am and made their way up to Tilligerry Motorama. Doris and Debbie cooked breakfast for the club – very nice egg & bacon rolls – the fire brigade was almost called when Debbie’s apron caught on fire, it didn’t stop her from cooking , just melted a little. A great club display 37 cars and 2 bikes, all the sweet tooth people were happy with morning tea of date cake, rocky road, slice, biscuits what a spread there were also a lot of markets to look at on this lovely sunny day. Never a dull moment what a great lot of cars on display, club members always joking, telling stories, having a go at each other all in the name of fun & fellowship. Lunch time again cooked & supplied by the car club, thank you to the ladies that were all involved with our BBQ. It was nice to see Lyn & Rob Garrett again such courage Lyn has to make the effort to Tilligerry also a big thank you to Julie W faithfully selling tickets even though she just found out she has cracks in her back and pelvis and is in a lot of pain, that’s dedication to her club and that’s the sort of members we have in our club. Our members to win our very rare and valuable certificates were Steve Houston with his EK Holden, Ken Smith with his Rolls Royce and Don & Sandra Rumbel with their EH Holden. 2 of our members also received Trophy’s from the Tilligerry Presentation they were Lynn Farmer for best Motorbike and Jeff Newey for Best British car. I’d like to finish by saying, What a Great Day!

Mid Week Run - 15th May 2014 Morpeth to Raymond Terrace River Park

What a great day that Marilyn ordered, perfect weather for our Mid-week on a Thursday, we met at Maccas at Edgeworth, 9 Club Cars including, George & Marilyn Vella, in their 1937 Ford Coup, Terry & Mary Jones, 1963 Chrysler Imperial, Bill & Collene Kalb, 1972 Holden Kingswood, Dianne & Fabio Paoletti, 1961 Holden Station Wagon, Rudy & June Galea, 1961 Holden Station Wagon, Christine Waugh, 1964 Austin Healey Sprite, Jeff Newey, MG, Barrie Hughes, 1959 Hillman, Tom Shannon, 1979 Mark II Jaguar. All Vintage Classic Cars not one modern, which was good to see, it is also fantastic that these Monthly Mid Week Runs are growing in the numbers, Marilyn is excited at this happening, Oh and Folks, you do not have to be a member to come along on one of these Runs, so invite a guest or two or three the more the merrier, we have lots of fun. Now we were supposed to get away at 9.00 am. But Fabio had not yet arrived, so we kept saying give him another 5 minutes, or so, anyway when Fabio finally turned up, he wheeled in, and said, “Hang on everyone, I will be back in a minute, have to go and get some Petrol”. We gave Fabio lots of Leeway as it was his 54th Birthday, which was the theme of the day getting under way at 9.30am. Off we go with George leading, and Fabio coming up the rear so that we did not lose anyone along the way, which as it turned out was wise, because Barrie turned off at the round-a-bout at Westy instead of going up over Mt Sugarloaf, but he realized and soon caught us up. We went the back road to come out at East Maitland, just before the Morpeth turnoff, some great homes, along the way, a pleasant drive to Morpeth Park, where we had Morning Tea, and of course some cup cakes that Marilyn had stayed up to make the night before til 1.00am, yummy. Fabio was given a lovely Birthday gift of a wooden Model Car, which has a lot of intricate inlaid wood, well crafted, so Fab was smiling all day. The Girls after we had a cuppa etc, went for a walk up to the shops, to explore a bit, loved the room upstairs at the Morpeth Corner shop that had some very lifelike Baby Dolls that were amazing. We then set off to go to Raymond Terrace Park on the River, where Terry and Mary parked their Big Crysler out in front of a house that had a Green Toilet and Bath, just begging to be seen in the front yard. As you will see with the photos, Fabio had a great Birthday Celebration, Dianne had put her usual twist to make it complete with party food, table cloth and Party Hats, which we all enjoyed as we chatted to everyone, Jeff kept us entertained with stories, and so did Rudy, Terry, it was a laugh a minute all the way. Fabio being the Birthday boy, was the winner of the Rare and Valuable Certificate. Now way back on the way in Collene spotted a Salvo’s and a Vinnies store on opposite corners, so said when it was time to go, Bill is going to backtrack to those stores before we go home, Marilyn said, “Oh yeah, I will come with you” so off we went to find some bargains, a lovely finish to what was a perfect day, thanks everyone for your company, your Party Food, and the stories. The Next Mid Week Run on a Thursday will be held on 19th June, meeting at 9.00am at Maccas Edgeworth, to Purple Cows & the Entrance.
