The Newsletter of Fulwell Infant School Academy Number 5 15th November 2019 Dear parent, As the cold weather and rain have affected school life in the last two weeks, we know that winter is approaching. Flooding around the walkway into the year 1/2 playground is always a problem and it is necessary to have alternative entry arrangements for at least the year 2 children. Thank you to parents for attending the first parent meetings of this year. I am certain that many parents were as thrilled as we all are of the progress the children are making. As we watched teaching in reception and year 1 (having already seen nursery and year 2) school leaders felt very proud to be part of an amazing teaching team, working with wonderful children. The children love to chat to visitors and will engage willingly in conversations about what they are doing and how they have improved since September in their learning. We respectfully held our 2 minute silence on Monday morning, in memory of the bravery of the men and women who fought in the wars that have scarred our past. The fortnight came to a lively conclusion as ‘Anti-bullying week and children in need coincided in a ‘colourful’ day with lots of teddy bears! Throughout the week a range of activities took place, centred around the theme ‘Inside Out’. We remembered those who have died for our country. A special assembly marked the occasion.

15th November 2019

Dear parent,

As the cold weather and rain have affected school life in the last two weeks,

we know that winter is approaching. Flooding around the walkway into the

year 1/2 playground is always a problem and it is necessary to have

alternative entry arrangements for at least the year 2 children.

Thank you to parents for attending the first parent meetings of this year. I

am certain that many parents were as thrilled as we all are of the progress

the children are making. As we watched teaching in reception and year 1

(having already seen nursery and year 2) school leaders felt very proud to be

part of an amazing teaching team, working with wonderful children. The

children love to chat to visitors and will engage willingly in conversations

about what they are doing and how they have improved since September in

their learning.

We respectfully held our 2 minute silence on Monday morning, in memory of

the bravery of the men and women who fought in the wars that have

scarred our past.

The fortnight came to a lively conclusion as ‘Anti-bullying week and children

in need coincided in a ‘colourful’ day with lots of teddy bears! Throughout the

week a range of activities took place, centred around the theme ‘Inside Out’.

We remembered those who

have died for our country. A

special assembly marked the

occasion.

Year 1 Geography explorers... During last week class 4 enjoyed walking along Station Road and Sea Road as they discovered lots of information about our wonderful local environment. They received a post card whilst at the Post Office and this sparked lots of interest in life on the Isle of Coll in the Scottish Hebrides and how this compares to life in Fulwell. The children are developing their geographical understanding of physical features and quickly becoming experts!

On a very busy

Friday, our anti-bullying

work continued and we

celebrated children in

need!

The children enjoyed many different

activities around bullying, based on the film

Inside Out.

These are examples of our work are from reception, year 1 and year 2...

Finally, we will be collecting donations all of which will to go towards buying a new school learn-ing pod. Don’t forget to be bring a lantern!

At each concert SOFIA will be running their Annual Christmas raffle which has many amazing prizes to be won including hampers, toys, gift vouchers from local businesses, con-fectionary and much, much more. They will also be running a cake raffle and selling Christmas crafts including sweet cones, hot chocolate reindeers, reindeer dust and hand made tree decorations. Team SOFIA will be braving the icy north east sea on Boxing Day to raise money for the school. All monies raised will go towards buy-ing an outdoor learning pod for the school yard. Their aim is to provide all our pupils with the best education, experience and envi-ronment possible, unfortunately due to increas-ing budget demands this is becoming harder. SOFIA are determined to provide this for our children and feel a new outdoor learning pod would provide a relaxing, sensory area for all our pupils.
