GIVING TWICE AND EVEN THRICE

The Binkley Alternative Gifts Fair takes place Sunday, November 21 in our Fellowship Hall. The beautiful event with all of its extraordinary participants begins right after worship. While Ray Speller and I continue to verify and recruit participants, below is our anticipated list:

If an agency is missing that you wish to represent please contact me through the church office. When you come to the Fair, you can learn a lot about any or all of these organizations. You may volunteer with the work that they carry out and you can support them financially by purchasing the items they have for sale. By learning, volunteering or purchasing, you have the opportunity to help three times.

All of the agencies and their participants are important but some of them are more known than others. I want to let you know a little more about one of them in order to encourage you to find out about all of them on the day of the Fair. The information was provided by Nancy Cheek.

The Amani Children's Foundation works to care for children in Kenya,

particularly the most vulnerable of these children - the abandoned infants.

Through our partner organization in Kenya, New Life Home Trust, Amani helps

to care for homeless and HIV-positive babies in six homes across the country.

The babies arrive at the home tiny, frail and often very sick -- and, by the time of

their 2nd birthday, most of them have left with new adoptive Kenyan families. The

Amani Foundation is supported in part from the sale of bead jewelry and other

arts from Kenya. One hundred percent of all donations go directly to care for

children at New Life Home.

The Board or Outreach is pleased to bring you the Alternative Gifts Fair with its invigorating joy. Snacks will be available along with love, kindness and a willing smile. Join us!

GIVING TOGETHER, GROWING TOGETHER: Stewardship season is here and it's time to think about all the ways in which our church meets our needs, serves our neighbors and fulfills God's mission for us. With a palpable spirit of joy and growth in our congregation, we know that Binkley will be prepared to move forward into 2011 with confidence. Each of us plays an important role in sustaining and nurturing our church through gifts of time, talent and treasure. Please be thoughtful and prayerful about making a pledge to support the work of Binkley next year. The Walks of Faith are scheduled for November 21 and 28. Pledge cards have been mailed but will also be available at the church. - Stewardship Committee

OCTOBER FINANCES

Some good news: our monthly pledged income for October was $5,000 above our budgeted amount. The shortfall in pledge income

through October is -$38,466, the smallest since 2003. Last year, it was -$55,619 at the

end of October and we never caught up. Our 2010

Non-pledged income is

$12,000 below projections

so it's even more crucial

that we maintain our

pledges and make up this

CHRISTMAS CRAFTS

Advent is almost here, and at Binkley it begins with the annual Christmas Crafts & Activities, AKA the Hanging of the Greens. The date is December 5 from 3-5, preceding a Chili Supper and caroling. The afternoon is a time for individuals and families to create/extend a holiday tradition; crafts and activities which help our church (wrapping candles for the Moravian Lovefeast, decorating the Crismon Tree, and assembling gift bags for our shut-ins), our community (Snowman Soup packets are assembled for the IFC), and provide the opportunity to create holiday keepsakes you will enjoy for years to come! Many volunteers are needed to assist at craft tables. It’s easy, a sample of your craft will be provided along with supplies and directions. Cookies are also needed; if you can provide 2 dozen undecorated cookies we will decorate them, eat some and donate the rest to Meals on Wheels. WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AROUND THE TABLE

Please join us each Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall for a hearty meal, children’s choir, and conversation for youth and adults. Each week participants will engage in fellowship around the dinner tables while sampling many parts of our life and ministry together. November and December meals and programs listed below.

5:30: Dinner begins (includes vegetarian dishes), and continues into the discussion time. Costs below. 6:15 – 7:15: Children’s Choir: Children in Grades K-5, who can read and commit to come each week, gather in the choir room with Leandra and Bo. Children 0-4 years gather in the nursery. 6:30 – 7:15: Everything You Wanted to Know about Binkley! Youth and Adults remain around the tables for discussions and activities led by different groups in the church. 7:30 pm: Chancel Choir rehearsal (childcare provided for those who make childcare reservations)

Sign up EACH WEEK to participate by adding your name to the list in the narthex, responding to the electronic email invitation on Fridays, or calling the church office at 942-4964. You may also sign up to prepare the Fellowship Hall for the evening or to clean up at the conclusion of the program. Look to the Friday email update and Sunday announcements for additional details.
