POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS IN TOXICOLOGYMASSACHUSETTS

INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGYThe need to understand the implications of human

exposure to environmental chemicals is the centralfocus of an interdisciplinary program in toxicologywithin the Department of Nutrition and Food Science.Research programs aim at identifying environmentalchemicals hazardous as toxicants, carcinogens, or mu-tagens, and elucidating the biochemistry of metabolismand subcellular interactions leading to adverse re-sponses in cell culture and animal models. Examples ofcurrent programs include broadly based studies on my-cotoxins and N-nitroso compounds, in which emphasisis placed on applying information gained from basic re-search to the immediate problems of evaluating poten-tial health hazards.

In order to intensify efforts in this area and to satisfythe increased national demand for professional scien-tists with toxicology training, several new appoint-ments at the postdoctoral level are available immedi-ately. Applications are solicited from individuals seek-ing professional experience but who desire the opportu-nity for independent development and contribution.Areas of research interest to be, developed are thereforebroadly defined and applicants with experience in fieldssuch as biochemical pharmacology, cell biology, andphysiology will be considered along with those from in-dividuals with experience more specifically related totoxicology.

PURESTCOLLAGENASE

OUR FORM III HASCOLLAGENOLYTIC ACTIVITY WITH

NO DETECTABLENONSPECIFIC PROTEASE

We've gone to helical and back to bringyou this devilishly clever enzyme. It isthe only collagenase in the world (exceptfor what may be made by gnomes in theirown laboratories in the Black Forest)which shows no contaminating activitiesby even the very sensitive tryptophanassay. (1)

Available in Three FormsYou can have your choice of Form I-pure

(really crude in this league), Form II-purer (tops in most leagues), and FormIll-purest (tops in all leagues).

Since we are by far the largest pro-ducers of collagenase in the world, andspecialists in anaerobic fermentations andextractions, we can probably supply youwith any clostridial enzyme you want.(1) Miller & Udenfriend (Archives of Bio-chemistry & Biophysics, 139, 104-113, 1970)
