THE COLLECTS - Harvest Thanksgiving (Page 191BCP) Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labours of those who harvest them. Make us, we pray, faithful stewards of your great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen or

O God, you have made us co–creators of our destiny; we give thanks for productivity and for advances in many fields: in agriculture, in industry and commerce, and in science and technology. Keep us ever mindful of your power and your love, the origin of all that is, the source of strength and wisdom, harmony and wealth. All things come from you, O God. We give you of your own, with praise and thanksgiving, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Proper 4 (Page 173 BCP) Lord God of the nations, you have revealed your will to all people and promised us your saving help. May we hear and do what you command, that the darkness may be overcome by the power of your light; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

1st LESSON: 7:30 - Debra Thomas 9:15 - Earl Cumberbatch

FIRST LESSON: (OLD TESTAMENT): FIRST LESSON: (OLD TESTAMENT): FIRST LESSON: (OLD TESTAMENT): FIRST LESSON: (OLD TESTAMENT): Deuteronomy 8:1-3, 6-10 (17-20)

Moses said to all Israel, "All the commandments which I command you this day you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers. And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his command-ments, or not. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD. So you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, by walking in his ways and by fearing him. For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. [Beware lest you say in your heart, `My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.' You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may confirm his covenant which he swore to

Letter from the Rector

Dear Members,

Offering Envelopes for 2014

The Church Council has made a decision to use only monthly envelopes from next year. This means that we are discontinuing the weekly envelopes. A number of reasons have resulted in this decision:- 1. The cost of the envelopes. 2. The cost of bulk postage from the USA. 3. The monthly envelopes will be cheaper to produce and to post. 4. The wastage of these envelopes, with many of them left unused every year. 5. Persons in many cases have been using one for the month, and leaving the others empty and attached to the one which carries the money. It is hoped that we all would be able to make a calculation of the exact monthly figure. Multiply your weekly contribution by five (5) and come to your final figure.

I am suggesting that persons use the facility offered by Government, through the Inland Revenue to claim on their income tax, and benefit from any refunds which are available.

We are seeking to be more efficient and more cost effective through this venture.

Supper

A special meeting with ALL PERSONS working at the Supper will be held on Wednesday 05 June at 7:30p.m. There will be a presentation led by Mr. Errol Bostic, Environmental Officer attached to the Maurice Byer Polyclinic.

I draw your attention to the list of items needed for our Supper. Tickets are available for the Supper.

your fathers, as at this day. And if you forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you this day that you shall surely perish. Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God.”]

PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: 65 (as found in Hymns Ancient & Modern) (7:30a.m. - page 547)

1. THOU, O God, art praised in Sion : and unto thee shall the vow be performed in Jerusalem. 2. Thou that hearest the prayer : unto thee shall all flesh come. 3. My misdeeds prevail against me : O be thou merciful unto our sins. 4. Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and receivest unto thee : he shall dwell in thy court, and shall be satisfied with the pleasures of thy house, even of thy holy temple. 5. Thou shalt shew us wonderful things in thy righteousness, O God of our salvation : thou that art the hope of all the ends of the earth, and of them that remain in the broad sea. 6. Who in his strength setteth fast the mountains : and is girded about with power. 7. Who stilleth the raging of the sea : and the noise of his waves, and the madness of the people. 8. They also that dwell in the uttermost parts of the earth shall be afraid at thy tokens : thou that makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to praise thee. 9. Thou visitest the earth, and blessest it : thou makest it very plenteous. 10. The river of God is full of water : thou preparest their corn, for so thou providest for the earth. 11. Thou waterest her furrows, thou sendest rain into the little valleys thereof : thou makest it soft with the drops of rain, and blessest the increase of it. 12. Thou crownest the year with thy goodness : and thy clouds drop fatness. 13. They shall drop upon the dwellings of the wilderness : and the little hills shall rejoice on every side. 14. The folds shall be full of sheep : the valleys also shall stand so thick with corn, that they shall laugh and sing.

2nd LESSON: 7:30 - Vincent Broomes 9:15 - Men’s Fellowship

SECOND LESSON (EPISTLE): SECOND LESSON (EPISTLE): SECOND LESSON (EPISTLE): SECOND LESSON (EPISTLE): James 1:17-18, 21-27

Every good endowment and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. Therefore put away all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing. If any one thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this man's religion is vain. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

GRADUAL HYMN - 709

THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: Matthew 6:25-33

Jesus Said "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor

reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.

Bidding Prayer

Let us pray for God’s blessing on the life of the Church and of the world.

Grant that the Church may so hunger and thirst after righteousness that she may bear faithful witness to the love of God…Give grace to her ministers worthily to offer the bread and the wine of salvation.

As the people of Israel were wonderfully fed in the wilderness, may the needs of all the world be satisfied…Give wisdom to those in power, to make just distribution of food and drink for the common good.

Give grace to us, our families, friends and neighbours, to seek the Lord with grateful hearts and to serve him in pure love…Bless this community with concern for all its mem-bers in their bodily and spiritual needs.

We pray for those who have too little for their sustenance, for all who suffer because they cannot feed their families…Bless those who seek to make the deserts blossom and the barren places fertile.

Grant rest and peace to those who have left this world and hunger no more…May they and all the faithful departed be fed with bread of heaven.

We offer our prayers through Christ, who gives us the food of eternal life. Amen.
