The New Covenant –
Abundant Life
New Covenant –
Jesus the Author of a New Covenant
(1Cor 11:25) In the same way, he also took the cup after supper,
saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, every
time you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
(Heb 8:6) But now Jesus has obtained a superior ministry, since the
covenant that he mediates is also better and is enacted on better
promises.
(Heb 8:13) When he speaks of a new covenant, he makes the first
obsolete. Now what is growing obsolete and aging is about to
disappear.
New Covenant –
Christ, the Perfect Mediator
(Heb 9:11,12,15) So Christ has now become the High Priest over all
the good things that have come. He has entered that great, perfect
sanctuary in heaven, not made by human hands and not part of this
created world. Once for all time he took blood into that Most Holy
Place, but not the blood of goats and calves. He took his own blood,
and with it he secured our salvation forever.
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those
who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now
that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins
committed under the first covenant.
New Covenant –
Our Amazing Inheritance
(1 Corinthians 2:9,12) However, as it is written: "No eye has seen,
no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for
those who love him"-- 12 We have not received the spirit of the
world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what
God has freely given us.
New Covenant –
Faith: Our Adoption as Children of God
(Gal 3:25 -27) But now that faith has come, we are no longer under
a guardian. (the law). For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God
through faith. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have
clothed yourselves with Christ.
(Heb 13:5) “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
New Covenant –
The Glory of the indwelling Spirit
(2Cor 6:16) For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said, “I
will live in them and will walk among them, and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”
(2Cor 3:3) you are a letter of Christ, delivered by us, written not
with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but
on tablets of human hearts
(2Cor 3:6-10) [God] made us competent to be servants of a new
covenant not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills,
but the Spirit gives life
New Covenant –
The deadly effect of the old covenant
(Gal 3:10,11) But those who depend on the law to make them right
with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, "Cursed is
everyone who does not observe and obey all these commands that
are written in God's Book of the Law." Consequently, it is clear that
no one can ever be right with God by trying to keep the law. For the
Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life.“
(Gal 5:4) You who are trying to be declared righteous by the law
have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace!
The Big Stick
New Covenant –
Freedom & Transformation
(2Cor 3:17-18 ) Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of
the Lord is present, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled faces
reflecting the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same
image from one degree of glory to another, which is from the Lord,
who is the Spirit.
(Gal 5:13) For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only
do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but
through love serve one another.
Indulging the Flesh
New Covenant –
Putting on the New Self
(Eph 4:17-25) Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must
no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds….put
off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is
corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of
your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of
God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, having put away
falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for
we are members one of another.

New Covenant –
Putting on the Humility of Christ
(Col 3:12-14) Therefore, God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, put on
heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a
complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you
must also forgive. Above all, put on love — the perfect bond of unity.
(2Cor 12:9) But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for
my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the
more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest
upon me.
New Covenant -
Compassion of Christ
(Heb 4:15) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been
tempted as we are, yet without sin.
(Gal 6:1-2) Brothers, if someone is caught in any wrongdoing, you who
are spiritual should restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching
out for yourselves so you also won’t be tempted. Carry one another’s
burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
New Covenant –
Bond of Unity in Christ
(Philippians 2:1,2 Col 3:13,14)
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if
any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any
tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being
like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose
….. accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a
complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you
must also forgive. Above all, put on love — the perfect bond of unity.
