In 2007 a small group set out to build a new parallel boiler LMS Patriot Locomotive. The name "The Unknown Warrior" was chosen in a competition organised through "Steam Railway" Magazine and as a result the project was endorsed by the Royal British Legion as the new "National Memorial Engine." Since then progress has been rapid with over £1,000,000 raised and a substantial amount of the locomotive built. The project is on target to complete the locomotive in late 2017 and to have it in on the mainline in London on 11th November 2018.
