Dear

I am very proud of this production, and I have been very lucky to get the chance of working in studio with three great musicians like Jesper Bodilsen, Andrea Marcelli and Antonio Zambrini. They shared their suggestions with me in order to increase the quality of the sound of the CD. I wrote all the compositions between July and early September 2014 and what you will listen is the result of four amazing days at the Tube Recording Studio in Fara in Sabina, where energy and positive thinking flew into the music to create something great. Even though the compositions are in some way linked to my previous works ("Lanes" and "Human Being"), these songs are a new and important step forward in my way of thinking about jazz composition: the melody is always central in everything I think, as well as sharing melodic and rhythmic ideas with other great musicians like Andrea, Antonio and Jesper. Jazz as I think I draw from my experience both musical life, and so many are the influences of different musical genres. It would have been impossible to find better travel companions for this work; they deeply understood my musical world and, as great tailors, they tactfully sewed me a canvas which I consider to be the most beautiful I drew until now.

Andrea Marcelli writes about the music of Filippo Cosentino:Filippo Cosentino’s musical qualities I mostly admired from the beginning are the “colors” of his acoustic guitars and his open-mindedness towards any new and unexpected element, essential to create real artistic values. His best features are determination and his inclination to develop a positive setting all around him. This was the background of the new album “L’astronauta”, where Filippo showed a growth as a composer. It’s so enjoyable to feel in Filippo’s compositions his interior life flowing through the sounds and modulations. Inner dualism between North and South is solved by the joint of his personal color developed in musical poetics. It is important then to highlight all the various musical genre derived from Jazz which harmoniously follow one another in the CD. This smooth development of different poetics is an interior need of the quartet, not a rational decision but a “jazz conversation” naturally born in the recording studio. Enjoy yourself while listening to “L’astronauta”!

Michael Rosen writes about the music of Filippo Cosentino:

“Filippo is a young and very interesting musician, representing an anomaly in Italian music scene: in contrast to the present “purist” current in Italian jazz, he embarked on a path of his own. His music is at the same time accessible and exotic, and integrates a variety of sounds. The second album shows how he already owns a peculiar identity and, most important thing, a remarkable maturity in thinking, that we’ll continue to greatly appreciate in the next CDs.
