July 3-7 Church of the Brethren Annual Conference Nancy Hess will serve as our congregation’s delegate to

Annual Conference which is being held in Greensboro,

NC. Your prayers for Nancy and her family as they

travel, for the conference leaders, conference conversa-

tions about the denomination’s Compelling Vision,

worship, and other events will be appreciated. If you

and business sessions, you can tune in at

July 28 Campfire Worship We will have worship at Camp Clay, aka our Fellow-

ship Hall. At this camp no insect repellant is necessary

and no fans are needed to beat the heat! We will wor-

ship with songs and stories around the camp-fire. And

THEN we will enjoy a picnic lunch of hotdogs and vari-

ous outside dishes. Casual dress is a must. We’ll have

plenty of chairs, but feel free to bring you favorite and

most comfy camp chair!

August 18 Blessing of the Students Plan to attend this special service of blessing for all of

our students. A pizza party to celebrate the beginning

of the school year will follow worship. Becky Fuchs will

preach.

2019 Annual Conference Witness to the City

Annual Conference in Greensboro, NC July 3-7 will include an opportunity for you to be part of

the “Witness to the City” project. It is likely you remember “Witness to the City” from previous

years. Each city’s project is unique, as every year it reflects needs of that host city.

The 2019 theme is “Back Pack Beginnings” and focuses on items that children need, such as

basic necessities, nutritious food, and comfort items. Your Outreach team has decided that

because items they are requesting are heavy, the logistics of getting them to Greensboro is

problematic. Thankfully, the opportunity to give includes a chance to provide funds to buy

those much needed supplies. In this way we can still make a positive difference for children of

Greensboro.

Please consider being a part of this. Between now and June 16 write checks for this project to

Mountville COB and mark your envelope for “Witness to the City.” One check from our congre-

gation will be taken to Annual Conference. We thank you!

Ham Dinner Brought in the Blessings!

Many thanks for the generous spirits who helped to make our Ham Dinner a success!

Hearty helpings of ham (and all the fixings!) were served up by Rick & Linda Weber

and their amazing kitchen team. Lively conversation and a warm welcome to our

new members, Garry & Dori Mueller, nourished us as well. A team spirit continued

as we worked together to reduced our mortgage by another $8,400. Your faithful

support means we are down to paying off the last 2% of our $1.2 million of building

improvement expenses. To God be the glory!

Child Consecration

In our worship service on May 12, five children were conse-

crated to God and welcomed into our family of faith. Jordyn

Noelle Sensenig was born on November 10, 2018 and is the

daughter of Amy (Boshnaugle) and Joel Sensenig, Jr. Fiona

Fox Schulz was born on January 13, 2016 and her little

sister Mia Dawn Schulz was born on October 13, 2018. Fiona

and Mia are the daughters of Regina (Fox) and Zach Schulz.

Evelyn Louise Schulz was born on April 29, 2015 and

Penelope Zu Schulz was born on December 20, 2017.

Evelyn and Penelope are the daughters of Valerie (Long)

Schulz.

Five girls, four of whom were consecrated. They are left to right: Mia Schulz, Evelyn Schulz,

Jordyn Sensenig, Stella Schulz, Penelope Schulz, and Fiona Schulz.

Bits ‘n Pieces

We extend our sympathy to the family of Ethel Good who died on Saturday, May 4. Ethel was a

member of our congregation for 59 years. Her funeral services were held on Friday, May 10 in

Lititz. Cards and notes to the family may be sent to her son, Tracey Good, 3972 Marietta

Love comes into our lives in many different ways, and sometimes very mysteriously!

We experienced that kind of love on Easter Sunday, and although we don’t know who we are

thanking, we want to express our deep appreciation to whoever gave the flowers in the worship

center in our honor that day. You warmed our hearts! Harry and Dottie Light

Thank you for your continued and faithful support to the Hempfield Area Food Pantry as

evidenced through your large food donation of 656 pounds in April. Your “Reverse Lent Giving”

was a very innovative request for food donations from the congregation! THANK YOU! In

April, the pantry served 166 families of which 197 were children; 359 adults; 110 seniors for a

total of 666 persons served. Clients may visit the pantry once a week, either Monday or

Wednesday…an average of 75-100 families visit the pantry each week. - Diane Gerlach

From Danielle Peters, Director of the Columbia Food Bank. Her note is about our

large delivery of food in April: “Thank you for your donation to the Columbia Food Bank

this month…much needed food supplies and so greatly appreciated! (675 lbs.) What a blessing!”

From Bill Sheurer, Executive Director and Lamar Gibson, Director of Development

at On Earth Peace. This is in response to our yearly benevolent giving: “Your gift of

$500 will ensure the message of peace and justice continues to be spread. Your steadfast sup-

port of our ministries enables us to bring powerful programs of training and accompaniment to

the individuals, groups, and congregations we serve. We thank you for your generous and con-

tinued support.Every dollar, every prayer, and every volunteer hour is valuable to us. We are

grateful for all you do to help us as we work for peace and justice in our nation and in our

world.”

From Jeffery S. Boshart, Manager, Global Food Initiative. This is in regard to our

monthly quarterly Global Food offerings. This quarter the amount given was

$452.70. “The Global Food Initiative is not just simply an organization or a special fund—it is a

living expression of love and compassion. For over 35 years, the GFI has responded to requests

from servants of Christ all over the globe to join them in equipping their neighbors to grow their

own food. You have been an integral part of these “good works” done in the name of Christ. We

thank you for your generous and sacrificial giving. May the Lord continue to bless you for car-

ing for those who are hungry.”

From David Steele, General Secretary, COB. This letter is in regard to our regular

benevolent giving. The amount given was $1,500. “Thank you for your support of the mis-

sion and ministry of the Church of the Brethren. It is through your generosity and support that

ministries grow and lives are changed. It is a blessing to partner with you to carry the light of

Christ into the world, and to boldly share the love of Jesus with neighbors down the street and

around the world. On behalf of all staff, volunteers, and board members of the church of the

Brethren, thank you for your time, prayers, gifts, and passions. We are honored to serve with

you in this important work.”

Sharing Our Past

Norman K. Musser was honored in

1967 for 50 years in the ministry.

About 250 people attended a

testimonial dinner, including Pastor

Luke Brandt and representatives

from Elizabethtown College, where he

served on the Board of Trustees. He

was Elder-in-charge at Mountville

from 1933 to 1962, chaired the Build-

ing Committee which built the new

church in 1962, and held many

positions throughout the District. His

legacy is carried on by his descend-

ants, who worship with us at

Mountville today. We are grateful to

Gene Swords’ Mother for keeping a

great scrapbook which has helped us

remember the many highlights of our

past.
