18 As is revealed from heaven God's wrath against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.19 For what God can know them manifests itself, because God has shown you.20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world his eternal power and his divine nature, to understand, and clearly see the things that are made, so that they are without excuse;25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty that their error.1 THEREFORE thou art inexcusable, man, whoever you are, because you condemn yourself in whatever you judge another; for you who judge practice the same.17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and rely upon the Law and boast in God;

INTRODUCTIONIn today's lesson we will have the opportunity to understand that sin, in its universality, he reached the Gentiles, the Jews and the entire human race. All were under the merciless yoke of sin. The need for a universal salvation in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ is a very clear theme in the Apostle Paul's argument in Romans 1:18 to 3:20.

INTRODUCTIONPaul tells us in Romans that both pagans, who were in the darkness of sin, the Jews, who were proud to possess the divine law given to Moses at Sinai, are under the dominion of sin. We will see in this lesson that only the revelation of the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus is enough to save both Jews and Gentiles.

I - THE NEED OF SALVATION OF GENTILES (Romans 1.18-32) 1. Rejection
12
In opening his argument in Romans 1.18-32, the apostle has in mind the sad situation in which it is the gentile world. This state of insensibility against the reality of spiritual things was provided by the ignorance in which they lived. The the sin had cast away from God.

13
The farther away from the Creator, more sin manifests its tentacles and strength gains. This attitude of rebellion against God culminates in idolatry, or puts the creature rather than the Creator. The man with his passions and desires, not God, becomes the center of existence:

If the world is in darkness, God can not be blamed for this. This is the argument of Paul to the Romans. God always revealed to men throughout history. Here it is evident that the Lord has made known through the created things (Romans 1:20).

Verses 22 to 32 of the first chapter of Romans shows the consequences of sin in the lives of men. They had the opportunity to glorify God, but they did not (Romans 1:21), and now reap the fruits of this evil stubbornness. The phrase "God gave them" no sense of causality,

And indeed they were. Paul points out that this approach failed blinded men, and put them in the folly of idolatry, who exchanged the Creator for the creature (Rom 1:23). Then he took them to the deviation of sexuality (Rom 1.26,27) and finally caused them to adopt a range of moral and social vices (Rom 1.28-32).

1. The Jews toward Gentiles
Paul took advantage of diatribe method in the letter to the Romans, as this feature enabled him dialoguing with readers. It is to imagine that a Jew when read what Paul said earlier about the gentile world, stay elated by the harsh tone adopted in the speech of Paul.

1. The Jews toward Gentiles
The Gentiles, in fact, were in a deplorable situation before God. However, the moralists Jews were not better off (2.1- 16). They also were equally condemnable before God (Rom 2.1- 3). They condemned the Gentiles, but practiced similar sins. So they were deprived of God's grace in the same way.

2. The Jews in the law.
Another aspect of the apostle's argument regarding the Jews is in verses 17-29 of Chapter 2 of Romans. Paul knew that every Jew was proud of the Law that they had been granted in Sinai (Rom 2.17,18). Unlike the Gentiles who only had natural revelation, they had also been given the Law. However, there was an incongruity between knowing the law and practice it.

2. The Jews in the law.
Only the knowledge of the letter of the law, without proper internalization of its rules and precepts, led Judaism to a sterile and self-righteous moralism. In this respect, of no use to know the law and do not live it (Rom 2.28,29). The Jew had become as guilty as the Gentile. Unfortunately, it is still exactly how many Christians act.

The question that every Jew would Paul did for soon after giving the answer:? "What, then, the Jew's advantage or what the profit of circumcision Much in every way, because, first, the words of God were you entrusted "(Rom 3.1,2). Even having previously stated that what really counts is the circumcision of the heart, the apostle does not deny the privileges of belonging to the people of God

(Israel). This is shown in the privilege that they had to be the stewards of God's mysteries. The logion Greek word translated here as "words of God" means oracle. The term refers is the revelation of the Law that God gave to Israel at Sinai. It was a high honor to have been chosen from all nations to be steward of the mysteries of God.

The Jews, though the chosen people of God, also need salvation.
SUBSIDY BIBLICAL"We know that the judgment of God is according to truth" (Rom 2.2). We can understand that statement? The judgment of God is established here because of the sins of paganism and flawed morality of the Jews to condemn the Gentiles. The issue of conviction of sin is one for everyone. Once you have sin, anyone incurs the condemnation of God. Paul declares that the Gentiles have sinned (1.18-32) and the Jews also have sinned (2.17-3.8). Therefore, since both Jews and Gentiles have sinned, all lack the righteousness of God (3.9-20).

SUBSIDY BIBLICALThe Jew believed that had special privilege, and so could escape the judgment already known to the Gentiles, but the reality was that the judgment would be 'in truth'. This expression 'in truth' means that God's judgment would be as the fault of each, based on the sins committed by each one. The Jewish wrongly interpreted mercy, as imagined as an act of divine tolerance of sin. [...] God showed the Jews his "kindness, tolerance and patience ', so that they leave the sin and repent.

SUBSIDY BIBLICALBut they did not this 'wealth' (2.4) and, therefore, for their 'hardness and impenitên- cia' (lack of repentance), and negatively judge the divine purpose, stored up for you 'wrath against the day of wrath' (2.5). What is the day of wrath? It is the day of reckoning. It is the day when the judging scale of God will weigh our actions and by their weight, will be judged. It is the day of retribution for sin and its inevitable punishment " (CABRAL, Elienai. Romanos:0 Evangelho da Justiça de Deus. 5.ed. Rio de janeiro: CPAD, 2005, pp.39-40).

The argument of Paul in Romans 3.9-20 is that both the Gentiles and the Jews without Christ are under the condemnation of sin (Rom 3.9). The human race without Christ is under the dominion of sin. The Greek hupo hamartían expression, translated "under sin," has the following meaning: the power, under the authority.

This same grammatical construction occurs in Matthew 8.9. In this passage we find the centurion saying I hupo emautón soldiers (under me), which in Portuguese is the meaning of my orders. The idea of Paul is to show that mankind in its natural state, separated from Christ, therefore, under the dominion of sin, is unable to free itself by itself.

Two other truths that we can see the argument of Paul in Romans 3:10 to 18 are related to the character and conduct. Sin distorted values and behaviors in society. inverted values are marks of a fallen humanity. Only in Christ they can be reoriented.

All, Jews and Gentiles, have sinned and need the salvation that can only be found in Jesus Christ.
SUBSIDY BIBLICAL"There is none righteous, not even one (3.9-18). Paul had argued that both the Jews and the Gentiles had sinned, and did not reach the glory of God. Now he proves this observation citing several Psalms. His Jewish readers would reject his argument, but hardly reject the verdict of the words that they know they are God's words.Whatever the law says to those under the law says, that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God "(3.19,20).

The moral law, which expect the Jew and the gentile good morals, proved to be a source of hope, but the standard by which was established their failure. Thus, the law is not road milestone in directing the divine reward, but mirror that, when used properly, tells us our sins " (RICHARDS, Lawrence.
