ST. BONAVENTURE COLUMBUS, NE

CHURCH CLEANING

Thank you to the following people who cleaned church on June 15:

Mike Tworek and Mike & Diane Schneider.

Crew #4 will clean church on June 29 at 5:30 p.m.

From our Pastor…

Today, we celebrate the Nativity of John the Baptist. This feast occurs six months before the birth of Jesus and is celebrated near the time of the summer solstice (June 21) because after the birth of John, daylight grows shorter, whereas after Jesus’ birth, daylight increases. As Christians, it is our duty (and should be our joy) to prepare the way for others to experience Jesus. We certainly can do this by practicing the Corporal and Spiritual works of mercy.

The Corporal Works: 1. To feed the hungry

2. To give water to the thirsty

3. To clothe the naked

4. To shelter the homeless

5. To visit the sick

6. To visit the imprisoned, or ransom the captive

7. To bury the dead

8. To care for creation

The Spiritual Works: 1. To instruct the ignorant 2. To counsel the doubtful 3. To admonish the sinners

4. To bear patiently those who wrong us

5. To forgive offenses

6. To comfort the afflicted

7. To pray for the living and the dead

8. To contemplate God's creation

The name “John” is derived from the Hebrew name which means “God is gracious.” This week, be gracious by practicing a few of the Corporal and Spiritual works of mercy. God’s Blessings,

GIFT BEARERS You will notice on the Liturgical Ministry Roles that we have included Gift Bearers in our schedule. “Bringing up the gifts” is a very important ministry; we are all called to bring the gifts that we have - the gifts that God has given us - and we give them back to God through good stewardship. When we bring up the gifts at Mass, it symbolizes our “yes” to His call in our lives. It is a great witness of faith! If your family would like to be on this schedule in the future, please call Belinda in the parish office and volunteer - 402-564-7151.
