No one grows up in New Orleans without Voodoo. In the case of Charles Massicot Gandolfo, the museum’s founder, this fact was all the more intensified by the tales from his grandmother that her great-grandfather had been raised in New Orleans by a Voodoo Queen. An artist, with a passion for all the history and romance of New Orleans, he created the Voodoo Museum to share his fascination with the world.

Great music and inexpensive drinks make this Frenchman St. spot a favorite of locals and travelers alike. On any given night catch two sets of blues, jazz, latin, or any of their various permutations. The space is small and the energy is contagious—it can get packed, but it's all part of the experience.

The famous Carousel Bar & Lounge in Hotel Monteleone is a long-time favorite New Orleans hotspot. The classic New Orleans hotel bar is the city’s only revolving bar. For decades, it has lured guests in to take a spin on the 25-seat, bright, circus-clad Merry-Go-Round. This year, Vogue Living named the bar one of the Top 20 Bars in the World, due in equal parts to the whimsical revolving carousel and comprehensive list of cocktails.

St. Louis #1, ‘The City of the Dead’, is just blocks away from the French Quarter. Made famous by the 1969 movie Easy Rider, it is the oldest active cemetery in New Orleans. The cemetery contains a labyrinth of tombs, unique to most in the U.S., which hold the remains of some of the city’s important historical figures, including, as legend would have it, Voodoo Priestess Marie Laveau.
