0 often our friends andstudents ask: "What can1 do to help with thework?" and so it is myintention to deal withseveral of these recur-

ring questions that your inquires onthis subject may be answered.

"Is there anything I can do tohelp with the great Work?" Yes,there is....much.You can assist invarious ways, but first of all, youmay help both your fellowtravellersand those not yet identified withthe Path by mental and spiritualcooperation, and by demonstratingthe helpfulness of Occult standardsin your own life. In short,so livethat others observing your life willbe inspired to emulate it, for theprinciples of Truth are reflectednot only in the sacred Books, butthey are most commandingly picturedin the living testament off dailylife.

Many students inquire:"Wouldyou object to my recommending theBrotherhood to a friend?" No, wefeel that the students who work withus are cognizant of the kind of in-struction and assistance of f ered and

would not suggest the organizationto those who would unworthily usethe Spiritual Mysteries. If yourfriends have demonstrated directlyor indirectly that they are seek-ing for something finer and higherthan they had before, or if you

perceive that they are old soulsawaiting another opportunity tocontinue their development, or iftheir lives have been so tangled

by adverse circumstances and bias-ed ideas that unhappiness or evendespair have resulted, we willgive full consideration to yourrecommendation, and admit them asstudents if our analysis showsthat they are prepared for advance-ment.

Others ask: "If I am to ob-serve the Occult principle ofSilence, does that mean I am nev-er to speak of my beliefs to others, and never teach them?" No, not atall. The principle of Silence re-fers to refraining from discussingpromiscuously the intimate contactsof the Inner Planes. As the Candid-ate progresses farther and far-ther along the Path, he or she ex-

periences a raising of conscious-ness and a close attunement withHigher Plane forces. These contactswhether they beIntellectual,Astral,or Spiritual, are personal, theyconcern the Candidate and no oneelse. We may speak of their beau-ty and message only to advancedstudents, or to the Masters guid-ing our efforts, certainly thesesacred revelations are not to bepublically advertised. But thereis much that can be done in the

    way of direct teaching....

werethis not so,neither you nor I wouldhave received Illumination. EachTraveller must learn from anotherin advance of himself, thus theremay be a niche waiting for you tofill as a Guide and Teacher.

If you are uncertain as howto proceed and are anxious to serveothers directly, the Special Train

ing Course will afford you theinstruction you need. There arenumerous occasions when you may

encourage someone in trouble, whenyou can advise one so deeply in-volved in a problem that his ownjudgment is warped, and too, often

a bit of technical assistance isneeded in solving a philosophical

problem. The Special TrainingCourse has been arranged to adviseyou on these and similar questionsthat you may avoid many of the disasterous errors inexperience oftenbrings.

Countless letters with thisquestion have been called to my at-tention: "Many times I have wishedto include an additional amount in

ray lunar envelope, but hesitatedfeeling that perhaps the Brother-hood has no need for an amount inexcess to the usual Offering.” Itis true that as far as the adminis-tration of the work is concerned,

we do not request that more thanthe stipulated amount noted in theCraftsman Booklet be forwarded byany student.... that amount is ap-plied to his or her personal tuitionary expenses. But we do ac-

cept additional amounts in the in-terest of those students who areexperiencing financial difficultyin the continuance of their work. There are many calls for us towrite those in dire circumstances, many calls for us to distributethe Messenger among unhappy anddestitute souls who have no othersource of Light and Spiritual in-struction, many times we wish tocontinue the Lessons schedule of stu-dents sincere and worthy, who are

not able to send in their Dues forseveral months..... all of thesedemands must be supplied out offunds other than those employedin furthering the usual activitiesof the organization. We do notconsider these services as actsof Charity, they are simply "aids"to help our comrades over a fewdifficult situations. So if youwant to help in this way, you may

do so, designating clearly in your'letter your intentions as to theapplication of the amount you for-ward „

All of these are practicalways in which to help and serve,

and all may be done in reverentialmemory of the loving Giver of allGood Gifts.

The true God is in me Even as he isAt the heart of the universe And when I grow above this world,

There is a something emanates fromme

An outgrowth from my earthly life,But greater than that life That cannot die.

So even must God gro7/,Because of that outgrowth in me,Greater than my life,

That I add to the heart of theuniverse.

He is ever changing,Even as I change,

And if the spirit in meOutgrows its earthly vehicle As it must Then God must grow through meBecause of what I and myriad

    force.

For God is spiritual forceAnd, since I am a part of Him,I’ll not be trammelledBy ary creed or dogma,For he who calls not to a distant

    VIBRATION

The most familiar contactswith vibration consist of our con-stant apprehension of light andsound.

    Vibration is defined as oscil-

lation; in other words, rapid mo-tion. Everything is in a constantstate of vibration. The materialuniverse is composed of atoms andmolecules which are never still, but are moving at astonishing ratesof speed at all times.

Reduced speeds produce solidobjects which can be seen and touch-ed.In water, for instance, there arethree distinct rates of vibration;the highest speed constitutes steam, the middle speed constitutes theliquid state of water, and the low-est speed manifests as ice.

It has been estimated byScience that molecules in air ofaverage temperature travel at arate of about 500 yards a second.Sound is a disturbance which onemolecule passes on to another whenit collides with it, rather likerelays of messengers passing mes-sages on to one another. The "mes-sage” of the molecules is their

rate of vibration.lt is apprehendedby each molecule in turn. For in-stance, when a musician strikes anote on the piano, the moleculesimmediately adjacent to the pianostring are raised or lowered invibration to a particular pitch. That vibration is immediately pas-sed on to the next molecule untilthe ’’sound" is diffused thruout the

entire room. It is manifested onthe ear drum and the message whichit contains is transmitted to the

conscious brain being interpretedas a musical note.

Light, however, travels at avery much higher rate of speed about 186,000 miles per second.SirJames Jeans has given us a very aptillustration to distinguish andcontrast the differences in speedbetween light and sound: "Lighttravels with the same speed aswireless signals, because both are

wavesof electrical disturbance.In-cident ly, this speed is just about amillion times that of sound. Theenormous disparity in the speeds ofsound and of electric waves is vi-

vidly brought out in the ordinaryprocess of broadcasting. When a

speaker broadcasts from London hisvoice takes longer to travel threefeet from his mouth to the microphoneas a sound wave, than it does to

travel 550 miles to Berlin, orMilan as an electric wave.Wirelesslisteners in Australia hear themusic of a broadcasted concert soon-er than an ordinary listener at theback of the concert hall who relieson sound alone. They hear it afifteenth of a second after it isplayed."

Light, and other forms of vib-ration distribute energy from a cen-tral point. If it were possible forus to move the arm at a high rateof speed we could, by swinging itback and forth rapidly, produce thevery musical note which is soundedby the piano. If we could move it ateven a greater rate of speed,it ispossible that the swinging oscilla-tion of the arm could produce a rayof light. Furthermore every color has

a different vibration, just as everymusical note has a different onealso. ,It has been estimated thatabout thirty vibrations per secondare the smallest number which willproduct a musical sound. Aroundfifty vibrations per second is equalto a low note produced by an organ, and about 8000 vibrations per secondis the maximum which can be appre-hended by the physical ear.The samething is true of colors. The vi-bration of light waves Is just as

varied as the differences betweenlow notes and high notes in sound.

Light waves which are receptive tothe physical eye extend all the wayfrom the red light to the violetlight, which, when it is seen by theeye, Indicates that 800 millionmillion waves of light are enteringthe eye each second. Of course, the waves of light which are per

    THE CHILDREN’S CORNER

requently parents haveasked for instructiveOccult material theymight transmit to theiryoung children, and so

we give you severalPrayers of proven helpfulness inthe consecration of young soulsto the Pathway of Truth and Light.First is the familiar Prayer ofthe four Angels:

Four corners to my bed,Four angels 1 round my head,One to watch and one* to pray,And two to drive all harm away.Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,Bless the bed that I lie on.

Jesus, hear my hopeful prayer,Tender shepherd of thy sheep,Let thy kindness and thy care,All our souls in safety keep.

Gracious Master, source of love,With light and comfort from above,

Be thou my guardian and my guide,And o’ver every thought and step

    preside.

Master of my guiding star, help methese three doors to cast ajar, each imprisons a treasure rare, and all I would with others share;first, the door of my body to per-

fect Health; second, the door of mymind to perfect understanding, andlast, the door of my heart to per-fect love.

Order my footsteps by thy words,And make my heart sincere;Let error have no dominion,Lord,

    And keep my conscience clear.

May all my heart and all my daysBe devoted to the Lightened Ways.

AffirmationGod,the good,is ever present with-in me and ever manifests Himselfas good in my life, filling ray con-sciousness with knowledge, joy, andharmony.

    THE DWELLER ON THE THRESHOLD

Various writers of popularmaterial on Occult subjects investthe Dweller with a certain nameless, terrible and supernatural power, describing it very much as they

would a fearsome monster waiting todevour hapless victims. That is notquite the understanding of this mat-ter which we wish our students to

have, and so thru analysis, let usdetermine exactly what the Dwelleris.

First of all, remember that ithas no separate shape, identity, life,or energy of its own, but it issimply the composite picture of allour failings, all of our errors, weaknesses, and inherent evil in-clinations. It is the synthesis ofall that which travelling the Path-way overcomes, and therefore itsformidable nature grows less menac-ing as its power is destroyed stepby step thru advancement .No soul isstrong enough at the first momentof dedication to higher principles,to master all negative aspects ofconsciousness in one grand revisionof character...we improve gradual-ly. And because of that, each step

of our journey is one in which we,figuratively speaking, wage waragainst the Dweller, learning thruexperience how to master its re-strictions .

It can destroyyes. But onlywhen it has voluntarily been givenfull control of one’s life. Thisadversary within is more persis-tent than any exterior enemy, forit strikes at our weakest moments, and if we permit it to do so, robsus of will power, courage andstrength, In other words, our ownvices bring untold despair andgrief when we yield to them, buttheir power to harm is mitigatedin ratio to the influence exertedby the Christ consciousness.

Those who aspire to enter in-to the Divine Temple of Wisdom, must necessarily pay the price, andthat supreme price is the Masteryof the Dweller.

    THE HUMAN TOUCH

ut in the panhandle ofTexas lived an old manand his wife who hadlived together for morethan fifty years. The

wife a very devout, faithful church worker ;the husband,a rancher who had busied himself

since the early eighties with theduties of farming and cattle rais-ing.

If you were raised as was I,tobelieve that unless you followed thedicates of the clergy you were doom-ed to everlasting punishment, youwill probably get a better under-standing of this epistle than thoseof you who were given more rein and

liberty of conscience.Time came when the husband and

father was no longer able to carryon,a heart affliction had kept himin his room for some months and inhis haste to regain strength he hadexperienced a relapse.A severe at-tack one evening left him in a veryweakened condition and he realizedfor the first time that recuperativepowers were not able to restore hisyouth and vitality .Taking his wife1 shand in his,he looked at her for a

minute, then with a smile on hisface, said, ffMother,I don’ t like toleave you, but it looks like I'mheadin’ for the last roundup.” Hercountenance became serious and fora minute or two she seemela in adaze, then looking at him she said,"Jacob, have you made peace with theLord?” For a moment he was the manof yesterday, gripping her hand inhis,a broad smile lighting up hisface,he said. "Mother,Me and the Lord

ain’t never had no trouble!"Folks who knew him said he hada kind heart, was humane to hisbeasts and an excellent neighbor. All of his life he had followed therule of, "Do unto others as you wouldhave them do unto you."

If you and I as students of Oc-cultism were to think of nothingbut living at peace with God,I won-der to what heights we would reach?

An emphasis on lip service is, inmy opinion, the least we can offerto those who have a right to expectsomething at our hand. The law is,

"Be ye doers as well as hearers."And the law which is above all law,"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God

with all thy heart and with allthy mind and thy neighbor as thy-

self" implies a service to our fel-low men.

When I was told the above inciden^it called to my mind the 23rdPsalm. David, in his latter days, when his physical strength waned, must have realized that the end ofthis incarnation was near, but as atrue Son of God,he felt the comfortthat comes with a service well ren-dered. MYea tho I walk thru the val-

ley in the shadow of death,I shallfear no evil, for Thou art with me.Thy rod and Thy staff they comfortme. ”

It seems to me the old manmust have felt that comfort andtho he lacked words to express itas David did, the meaning is thesame.

To me this incident is a re-velation. In this day when thepious gird their loins to do ver-bal battle with the devil, and go

into long winded, meaningless ora-tions to condemn sin, I sometimeswonder, were they hitched in theharness of the ordinary man andcompelled to earn their bread atthe forge and the daily grind of

the laborer, would they retain someof the ideals they expound fromtheir cushioned seats of ease andgesticulate with uncalloused hands?

The impractical idealists andthose who make much ado about no-

thing,of course fill a place in theworld, but it does seem to me thatthe time is at hand when we shouldput into practice the teachings ofthe Master Jesus, who said, "In asmuch as ye do it unto the leastof these, ray brethren,ye do it untome." Those whom conscience con-demns have lost or misused thehuman touch.

    Old Joe.

    THANK YOU

We wish to thank all thosewho sent us information concerning

a certain book of reference men-tioned in the August Messenger. Wereceived scores of replies, and

were overjoyed at the wholeheart-ed response this request brought.

The need has now been suppli-ed through the kindness of one ofour students, and we wish to thank, not only the donor, but all thosewho so earnestly engaged in oursearch for this volume. Your as-sistance and interest were appre-ciated.

THE LARK AND HER YOUNG ONES

There was a brood of young Laiksin a field of corn which was justripe, and the mother, looking everyday for the reapers, left word when-ever she went out in search of food, that her young ones should reportto her all the news they heard.Oneday, while she was absent, the mas-ter came to look at the state of thecrop."It is full time,"said he,"to

call in all my neighbors and get mycorn reaped."When the old Lark camehome, the young ones told theirmother what they had heard, and beg-ged her to remove them forthwith."Time enough,” said she; "If hetrusts to his neighbors, he willhave to wait awhile yet for hisharvest."

Next day, hov/ever, the ownercame again, and finding the sunstill hotter and the cornmore ripe, and nothing done, "There is not a

moment to be lost,"said he;"we can-not depend upon our neighbors: wemust call in our relations;" and, turning to his son, "Go call youruncles and cousins, and see thatthey begin tomorrow."

In still greater fear, theyoung ones repeated to their motherthe farmer’s words. "If that beall, said she, "do not be fright-ened, for the relations have got

harvest work of their own: buttake particular notice what youhear next time, and be sure you letme know." She went abroad the next

day,and the owner coming as beforeand finding the grain falling to theground from overripeness, and still

no one at work, called to his son."We must wait for our neigh-

bors and friends no longer; do yougo and hire some reapers tonight, and we will set to work ourselvestomorrow." When the young onestold their mother this "Then,"said she, "it is time to be offindeed:for when a man takes up hisbusiness himself, instead of leav-ing it to others, you may be surethat he means to set to work inearnest."

    from Aesop’s Fables.

Vibrations (Concluded from page 4)ceptible to the physical eye arenot the only rates of vibration, nor are they the highest rates ofvibration in existence. There aremany types of vibrations beyond thatof the brightest light of which theeye is ignorant. For instance, thewell known XRay which penetrates

thru flesh, but which is oscillat-ing so rapidly that the eye cannotapprehend its motion,is an exampleof such vibration.

In addition, there are theGammaFlays, which are just beginn-ing to attract scientific attention. And to continue still further, thosevibrations of an even higher pitchthan has been discovered ty scient-ists, correspond to the pitch of

the Astral Plane; becoming sensi-tive to Inner Plane Actuality

means the "raising of vibrations".Just as the musician practicesto distinguish each note in themost complicated chords, so does

the Occultist, thru practice, learnto receive these Higher Vibrationsthru exercising his psychic fac-ulties. They are beyond the re-active ability of the five senses, being received only by that moresubtle body, the psychic vehicle.
