Which of the fads mentioned were popular where you live? Which decade produced the most fads in your country? Do you still have some of your old toys? Have you encouraged anyone to get into a craze that you loved as a child? How much do you think you have spent on fads and crazes over the course of your life?

b

Runner-up in the poll was the Parker Pen which was the must-have writing implement for studious school pupils back in the day.

Lava lamps, marbles and conkers completed the top five most loved fads in the poll that was carried out by Heinz Beanz.

The only TV show to make the list was the hit sitcom Friends which came in at number six in the list, just ahead of Dr Martens – the footwear of choice for punks in the 70’s and 80’s.

Two dance crazes featured in the poll – Saturday Night by Whigfield and the more recent Gangnam Style.

One of the more modern fads to make the list was the onesie in fifteenth place which became a must have in 2013

thanks to a host of celebs being pictured out and about in the oversized babygro.

Other fashion items that made the top 100 were UGG boots which came in 21st place and Crocs (56th place).

Going further back to the days of Hippie fashion bell-bottomed trousers ranked 27th.

The addictive game snake came in nineteenth place – the game which was installed on early Nokia mobile phones left users furiously tapping at keys in the early noughties.

Selfies and planking also were featured in 54th and 92nd place respectively, as was the current phenomenon of Pokemon Go.

The current trend for twerking, made famous by Miley Cyrus just made it on the list at 99 followed by POD shoes, favoured by schoolgirls in the 1990s.

The poll also revealed that the best decade for fads and cool crazes was the 1980s.

Perms, My Little Pony and break dancing were among the fads to emerge from the

80s, along with BMX bikes, Action Man dolls and leg warmers.

And perms weren’t the only dodgy haircut to get a mention – the curtains hair cut favoured by boy bands in the nineties came in at 84, along with the ‘Rachel’ cut (60th place) inspired by Jennifer Aniston’s popular Friends character of the same name.

Half of the 2,000 adults polled said they still have some of their old toys.

Of the parents that were studied one in five said they have encouraged their children to get into a craze that they loved as a child.

The survey also revealed the average adult has spent a whopping £1,523 on fads and crazes over the course of their life.
